Banff Fireball Photo Captured Over Mount Rundle By Brett Abernethy

QuoteIt was a once-in-a-lifetime shot for Brett Abernethy, but he nailed it. Oh, did he ever nail it.

The Calgary photographer was stationed at Johnson Lake in Banff National Parkwith a colleague at about 1:22 a.m. last Saturday, hoping to catch some auroras, the Calgary Herald reported.

The sky soon lit up like it was daytime, Abernethy said. He was using a 49-second exposure on his Canon 5D Mark III camera when a meteor shot across the sky above Mount Rundle, creating a rare and spectacular photo, said The Calgary Sun.

"It was like the light that comes from [an] arc welder, sort of blue and white," he told the newspaper. "I knew right away what it was."
