Well "paid protestors" are REAL  You can find hundreds of ads in craigslist for protesting everything under the sun...

Just google "craigslist ads for protesters"

it is under "gigs and events"  In fact I found all sorts of things in there to make a quick buck like Convention meet and greet people, paid to make product reviews, etc
