They (we, as I am a moderator there) ban them for not following the rules.

It's a big forum, so it's a mix of all possibilities.

They ban you for many reasons   

1)  Don't piss of their favorite skeptics by tricking them with real photos of objects that were reported as UFOs and were not  LOL  ( I did that  the thread is posted here somewhere

2) DON'T discuss how much money ATS makes... the forumions MUST believe the lie that ATS is starving

3) don't get too popular... because if you are more popular than them they cut your head off  and if anyone DARES say "We miss Zorgon"   that post is immediately deleted and a warning posted

Yes the place is CRAWLING with spooks  some bad and hidden, some good and in plain site and admit it.  One bad one was Cool Hand... I outed him in a thread and many noticed and gave me kudos for the nice trap   The good ones were very useful... one even came to visit John and myself  He was pretty high up DIA/Air Force...

Disinfo site? Hmmm not so much  It's just swarming with uber skeptics that will pounce on any thread in their rush to shoot down your comment, idea, theory, evidence      With ATS you can simply read the opening posts of each thread your interested in and skip the rest as 90% is trolls naysayers and debunkers   (you can skim page 1 and 2 see if there are any sane replies at all )

I go there when something good pops up  Its nice to have ad blocker engaged  SOOO much easier to read
