MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Officials said three people are in critical condition at USA Medical Center after a barge exploded and caught fire. Officials said units were on the scene on the east side of Mobile River.

Lt. Mike Clausen with the U.S. Coast Guard said initial reports suggest one barge exploded. Multiple explosions occurred, the first around 8:30 p.m. at 200 Dunlap Drive, near Austal.

Alabama fuel barge fire extinguished, 3 severely burned - CBS News

MOBILE, ALA.

A huge fire resulting from explosions aboard two fuel barges in Mobile, Ala. has been extinguished.

Mobile Fire-Rescue spokesman Steve Huffman said in a statement to The Associated Press Thursday morning that the fire was out and that it appeared to be accidental.

The fire started Wednesday night. Three people were severely burned.

U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Carlos Vega said Thursday that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
