Socotra Island

No real aliens found yet.
Just sharing a very unusual beauty with you.  :)

QuoteThe name Socotra is derived from a Sanskrit name, meaning "The Island of Bliss"... Is it the beaches? The isolation and quiet? Or the strange and crazy botanical allure? Alien-looking plants: H.P. Lovecraft's secret inspiration?

Was the famous Chtulhu myths creator aware of these forbidding mountains with their hauntingly weird flora (think of plant mutations from his "The Colour Out of Space")? We're almost tempted to call Socotra the other "Mountains of Madness" - the trees and plants of this island were preserved through the long geological isolation, some varieties being 20 million years old... We begin with the dracena cinnibaris or Dragon's Blood Tree, the source of valuable resin for varnishes, dyes, and "cure-all" medicine; also (predictably) used in medieval ritual magic and alchemy.

Dragon Trees
The dragon tree branches spread out into the sky and
appear to hover over the landscape like so many flying saucers

That cascading waterfall is just fantastic to look at. Saved the photo, will have to add it to the next park I get to design. Thanks for the photos.

Socotra makes me think Voynich manuscript. Perhaps an Italian madman ventured south by water to this island and while licking mushrooms had an epiphany for writing a manuscript.

Or

Its the garden of eden, sorta.

Add to bucket list:  spend eternity on Socotra...  Well, at least a year to explore.
"If the universe is made of mostly Dark Energy...can We use it to run Our cars?"

"If You want peace, take the profit out of war."

Elvis Hendrix

"Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."

It does look like a paradise, and other worldly.

I thought the very same thing... :) that is one of those
that still has my curiosity up. And your right about the "trees" on
Mars, curiouser!

Yep, the beaches look amazing! I wonder what kind of
sea shells we might find if we were walking on those beaches?

@ Elvis, thanks!  :D

Thanks sky!

I have a vague recollection, though I can recall what they use
that stuff for, a type of medicine man stuff?  8)
