Slash your monthly expenses by $1,000 (or more) per year
You can pay for TV, Internet access and anti-virus protection or you can get them free. Here's how to eliminate or slash your monthly subscription fees.

just one item

If you have an HDTV and a roof antenna, you can get free over-the-air channels with a picture quality that puts standard-definition cable TV to shame.

Of all the things mentioned on that article, the only one in which I can save some money is Internet/cable TV/phone service (in Portugal most companies provide all three things with one contract), but not that much.

i have some suggestions too.
save plastic grocery bags and use them for trash basket liners in the bathroom.

save plastic margarine bowls and use them for storing things, such as crayons, open boxes of macaroni, soap bars or food left overs.

use body wash for hair and body, so you don't have to buy separate shampoo and soap for body.  pour a third of it into a separate bottle and stick it under your bathroom sink.  then add 1/3rd water to the 2/3rd full bottle of body wash. be sure to read the label about getting it in your eyes if you use it to wash your hair.  next 2 bottles you get, repeat the steps above, and by then you'll have basically a free bottle of body wash that is 2/3rds full and then just add 1/3rd water to have a full, free bottle.

cut coupons and use them to buy the stuff you need.

buy in bulk, such as bulk rice, bulk oatmeal, bulk cereal, etc. then separate it into separate large ziplock bags and pack them in a larger box for later use.

buy cheap towels and cut them into squares for rags, dish cloths, wash clothes.

if you smoke, buy pipe tobacoo, filter papers and a rolling machine.  cut your costs from $50+ per carton to $6 per carton.

need cheap air conditioning?
