The UFO that was not a UFO

Hi there,

Perhaps you have seen this weird photo with what some would call a Blue UFO, taken during STS-096.
I really hope not to destroy someone's illusion but the UFO is not real as you will see.

However there is something weird with this photo from the same series. Why else would someone tamper with this.  The tampering is very obvious so what is it we should not see?

I am curious what it is that You might say it is that We are seeing emerging in the first photo.  Is it a double exposure?  It does look very likely.

But in the second, I can see clearly that the photo has been manipulated and likely hides something.  Thanks for this!

That would be a strange tampering, done in blocks.

PS: is the processing that you applied to that image the same you applied to the first?

Looks to be a reflection in the portal window of the craft where the camera was taking the money shot.

Not really strange at all.  Easier to select a large area and fill with black than to hunt out all the spots You want covered.

I agree this photo has been washed. I see the blue also as a reflection. Can you look in the area I have circled in Red. There is something in there and may be the reason for the photo.

It's even easier to replace colours close to black with black, no selection needed.

At this moment I see neither version used. I do see 4 different gradiant sections as if 4 matts were applied, probably when the reflection was removed the photo was left faint and matts were overlaid to produce a darker photo. Since they still show gradiants they must have grabbed space from another print and re-used it.

Anyway I look at it the original was tamppered with. And the reason for the photo in the first place may lie in the red circle drawing where it looked to me that a UFO is hiding in there. I will wait for Sander to look at it, see what he thinks. After all most people will snap a photo for a reason and also center it. I think this photo might have both. A reason and a object.

Sander on your photo where it almost looks likes space is burlap, you can see two dots, one is the blue refection and the other looks to me like a UFO in the distance. By the time they finished black washing this print it only left a faint messed up picture but I found something and it ringed out within the pixel group.

I usualy would not print such a messed up print like this but I am wondering if you can now find it better than I can. You system did pin point it once, can you grab it better now you know the area.

If this photo was taken of the UFO then I understand why they washed it out. It might have been very clear to start with and we are now left with garbage to work with.
