Why would members drag up old threads about sore issues?
Wouldnt it be better to start a new thread to make small talk.
It almost looks like folks are trying to antagonize other members.trying stir up sh-t.
Some threads deserve to die a horrible death in the abyss.
But im sure reopening old wounds will create lots of drama and divide and destroy this forum.but at least it will make money on the front end from multiple hits.

Imho.

I understand your thinking Robo, but.......as long as a thread is not closed, it is still open for additional comment. As new members come aboard, there is a lot here for them to read and catch up on. Assuming that most that come here have somewhat similar interests, we probably should expect commentsfrom them in some of the prior threads.

Actually, much of what is posted here, outside of some of the news stuff, is informational, experience related, and subject/topic oriented. This sort of thing doesn't really age much over time, until maybe overtaken by advancing technology.

From a forum standpoint, it probably is desirous to not have multiple same-topic OP's if at all possible.

Just a few thoughts on your comments.  :)

Well, I've been here 18 months, and I've still got 60% of the boards and threads to explore.. I always come across old threads that could do with additional input.. But its comments like like Robo's that make me think twice..

80,000 pages folks :o

So no-one is going to be able to read all of it, some of our best & oldest threads get moved now & then.

Threads that degenerate into pointless rants get placed in the Drama section for the mods to laugh at :D
I sometimes bump old threads to let the newbies see it, LOL
Each new member brings their own unique input, and that makes for interesting conversation, right?

About 3 months ago we changed how old threads were viewed. It used to be 90 days and you would get a message. But so many good threads were caught in that 90 day loop that they were going dead to all. Any single thread can be put to rest or locked if it is digging up old wounds. But with keeping old threads open it has some baggage. I have lots of threads that hit 90 days that will be hit from time to time as new members come in and if new data is found.

If you find a real sore issue thread, you can advise the staff and let them vote on if it should be dealt with or not. Yes, some threads should be put to rest while others get a second or third chance. It is a gamble but for the most of it it seems to be working very well. Maybe 95 good/5 bad
