ok this is funny.. took me a minute to figure out where that thread went..lol
i was reading before signing  in and then it just went poof..
hahahahahahaha.. blocking works

i'm starting here Z .. you can put it wherever it works better

anyway Z said this

have looked into a commercial installation.  For my house it would run around $5-6,000. That system would run my house with about 25% extra to feed into the grid at maximum usage. My current power bill runs around $400.00 a month... so I would reach break even point at just 15 months or so.

i am all for the cheapest way to go.. but where i am solar wouldn't be worth it..
first:       my elec is only 35 - 45 a month...summer is less cause i do have a clothes line
second:  in western pa.. we have less sun days than anywhere in the states..

soooooooooo
how can i have such a low bill...
insulation...it's for folks that solar just isn't the way to go

when we built we thought about it..and it cost a bit more to build but it has paid dividends

the lower story in below grade blocked and brick.. so summer there is no need for air cons..
there is a layer of the pink stuff  between floors and the top story was foamed, insulated  and drywalled on the inside
and outside was wrapped and foam board stuff before insulated siding
the ceiling is industrial sound proof tiles with two six inch layers of the pink stuff
an air space and then  the roof.

so. for places like here,  insulation is the answer

anytime you need to do any repairs you can add more..

another good thing is having trees around the house..
to block the wind and provide shade in the summer

i'm sure there are others who can add to this..
;D
