Edmonton woman finds the words 'You Retard' under bottle cap

QuoteSoft drink giant Coca-Cola is apologizing after an Edmonton woman found the words "You Retard" inscribed inside a cap on a bottle of Vitamin Water recently.

"Very, very unfortunate that this happened," said spokesperson Shannon Denny. "We apologize to our consumers for this."

The words are part of a promotion for Vitamin Water where random French and English words are printed on the caps, she said.

"Retard" is a French word meaning late.

"The chances were so slim through this random process," said Denny adding that not anticipating the potential word pairings was a mistake.

"The promotion has been cancelled," Denny said. "We are stopping production of all of the bottles using those caps with words. And any caps we have within our inventory are being destroyed."

Heh..it seems randomness can generate a lot of offensive material...  ;D

Sinny

Yea, I canny remember of the top of my head, but I've see a few offensive (Well, not to me) security words presented before aha.

Random French and English words? ...and "retard" wasn't considered worthy of the filter list?

I suppose next, we'll all learn the hard and rather awkward way that "fag" is just a term for Cigarette to the English. Oh...can I see how such innocent words in one nation could be paired with another random word to be offensive in real deep ways to others.

Perhaps learning to set guidelines for such a promotion on their technical side needs to come before just throwing it out there to apologize for later. So much of that attitude seems to be the new norm these days.
