This Magnificent Galaxy - Nebulae

Very nice A51Watcher. Excellent shots of pieces of the Universe, of the which we are a small part. As we look at these, we can get a sense of the Universe being "alive", in much the same way our bodies are "alive". In our bodies all things are working together, and to me, it appears that with the Universe also "all things are working together" - most likely beyond our current knowledge/ability to understand. Like for instance, assuming the Universe is alive, I wonder what is the functional part of all of the black holes in the life of the Universe - are they simply a place for conversion of universal waste into stellar energy/dark matter, for the needs of the infinite universal body??

Scientists have started saying the same thing about the Oceans... that they are a complex life form.  Yes the Universe is ALIVE... plasma is the life FORCE of the Universe...  a Star 'dies' in a mighty burst of plasma, which creates the nebulae from which new stars are born... endless cycle... no Omnipotent Deity required

Black Holes are still only a theory... we haven't actually caught one yet    Our theories as regards the Universe have often been incorrect

Thanks rdunk. I agree with your thoughts and speculation.

The next probe after Kepler is Tess, where we will start to get some hard data on the chemical makeup of the multitude of new solar systems found by Kepler and what types and amount of atmosphere they have.

The way the picture is starting to shape up is pretty sobering.

You bring up a good point.

The images of Nebulae, are frozen moments in time of a huge explosion.

It's like having a freeze frame of a mushroom cloud from an atom bomb. That's what these images are.

A cosmic 4rth of July if you will.

IF  you could shrink in size.... so small that you could stand on an Atom as it were a planet... what would you see when you looked up?
