China tops patent applications list in 2014

This is a brief but interesting piece of "world news". I suppose this data would suggest/confirm that China is somewhat out of the rice-paddy fields now, from a technology standpoint. I do wonder if they take the time to request patents for products which they copy/back-engineer?

China had more invention patent applications than any other country in 2014 for the fourth year running, official data showed on Monday.

The number of invention patent applications filed to the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in 2014 stood at 928,000, up 12.5 percent from 2013, the SIPO said.

The office authorized a total of 233,000 invention patents in the year, 163,000 of which were from Chinese applicants.

By the end of 2014, China had 663,000 invention patents with high quality and market value, and the number of invention patents per 10,000 Chinese people reached 4.9, the SIPO said.

China has seen rising numbers of patent applications as part of a drive to upgrade the economy. However, the country's invention patents still lack a competitive edge, experts said.

One of the government's priorities has been to boost innovation by improving intellectual property rights protection.

I do wonder how useless most of those patent's are in real life scenario's, because if they are anything like the majority of the patent's reported in the news on tech websites it does indeed seem Lawyer's in Chinese Company's have learnt one golden rule to money.... Sue Sue Sue.

Yes, I would pick the Chinese food first too!!

We really have seen much in the past few years that should speak to us about China, and their growing place in the this world. One huge confirming factor is their financial strength literally world-wide! And we should know that in spades, as the USA is in debt to China to the tune of several trillion dollars. Another factor is, China does have an aggressive and ongoing space plan, and we have recently see the results of that in their successful moon landing of their Rover. Of course, probably a most noticeable factor is that much of what we now buy in stores in the USA has "Made In China" on it.

Thus far, it does seem that China is making their money off of what they manufacture and sell to countries that have money, and are making their money by lending money to countries, like the USA, who do not have enough money to pay their bills!!

I personally wouldn't put too much stock into worrying about those reported items. 

IF China had the worlds best vehicle's, the world's best electronic's, The worlds best everything.  They would be renown for the "being the worlds Best".  Honestly are they renown for anything apart from food ? which many Asians avoid due contamination ?

I still maintain after 14 year's of working in plastic prototyping that modern Chinese Culture in general does not have the same mentality as other nations due to dog eat dog mentality.  The world's general end product you can buy at Bunning's/Walmart quality wise has dropped to get "China on Board" inmho.

China is the new America a sense... yet they have not done anything so great. 

I'm more inclined to wonder what Japan are getting up too Mil wise
