Sometimes when I'm in a half awake / half aslerp state, I hear what sounds like a newscast.  It's like a television or radio is turned up loud in another room.  The first time it hapened, I heard a man breaking into the regular programming to announce that Tony Blair had been shot in an assassination attempt.  This morning, I heard two men discussing the ramifications of the medication that had extended the human life span, along with good health, by centuries.  Because people were no longer dying of disease and old age, a law was pending that would bring about enforced sterilization of most people of childbearing age.  The men then moved to the topic of the latest hurricane and its 400 mph winds.  Someone else was commenting that we had brought these things about with our ever increasing need to pursue youth, and with our indifference to the effect our past actions had had on our world.
