Alien Hunters Intrigued By Mysterious Radio Signals Recorded In Australia.

Mysterious signals, dubbed Fast Radio Bursts (FRB), have prompted experts to revisit the belief that aliens are trying to contact us.

Five random bursts were detected by a team in Melbourne, Australia, which could have been sent from another civilisation.

One of the astronomers involved in the finding, Emily Petroff, tweeted: "we have no idea what's going on, but we know it's definitely something cool."

Using the Parkes radio telescope, researchers picked up on one double blast along with four single bursts.

Those behind the discovery say that these latest series of signals have a "two-component profile," with each burst being separated by 2.4 milliseconds.

In their paper, they state: "Many of the proposed models to explain FRBs use a single high energy event involving compact objects (such as neutron star mergers) and therefore cannot easily explain a two-component FRB.

"Models that are based on extreme versions of flaring, pulsing or orbital events however could produce multiple component profiles."

While it is easy to get excited about the idea of aliens trying to contact us, in the past, these signals have been known to have a completely boring source.

In May, scientists had to dial down their excitement over similar signals detected by the Parkes radio telescope, when they found out that a microwave oven in the kitchen was responsible for the bursts. Fail.

Nasa's New 'Star Trek' Tech Is Designed to Detect Alien Life

New NASA technology straight out of "Star Trek" could help scientists detect life on other worlds.
The device, dubbed the "chemical laptop," is a miniature, portable laboratory that resembles the TV show's famous tricorder scanning device, and is designed to make data collection easier and faster than ever before.
The laptop, currently in development at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, is a chemical analyzer made to detect both amino acids and fatty acids, often called "the building blocks of life," in samples from extraterrestrial terrain. Amino acids bind together to create proteins, which are vital to almost all processes that occur within a cell, and fatty acids are an important component of cell membranes, so researchers believe finding both could indicate that life is now or was once present. [10 Exoplanets That Could Host Alien Life]
Though it's roughly the size of a regular laptop, the chemical laptop isn't like any computer on store shelves. It's much thicker, to make room for chemical analysis components inside. But perhaps the biggest difference is that this laptop doesn't shut down when it gets wet — it actually needs liquid to work.
This could be "an especially useful tool for icy-world targets such as [Saturn moon] Enceladus and [Jupiter moon] Europa," said Jessica Creamer, a NASA postdoctoral fellow based at JPL. "All you would need to do is melt a little bit of the ice, and you could sample it and analyze it directly," she said in a statement.
The device uses technology similar to an espresso machine to analyze a sample. It picks up a liquid or ice sample, puts it in a tube with liquid water and heats it above 212 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius). Then, it mixes the sample with a fluorescent dye that attaches to amino and fatty acids.
Researchers are looking to see how long the fatty acids' carbon chains are, which would indicate what kind of organisms are or were there. But they're also interested in the ratio of "left-handed" amino acids to "right-handed" amino acids.
Like left and right hands, left-handed and right-handed amino acids are mirror images of each other. The molecules have the same elements attached in the same order, but since they mirror each other, they're fundamentally different.
Living things on Earth are made up almost exclusively of left-handed amino acids, but scientists believe it's possible that life on other worlds could be made of right-handed amino acids. The key is that life would create more of whichever type of amino acid it was made of, leading to a higher prevalence of one than of the other.
"If a test found a 50-50 mixture of left-handed and right-handed amino acids, we could conclude that the sample was probably not of biological origin," Creamer said in the statement. "But if we were to find an excess of either left- or right-[handed amino acids], that would be the golden ticket. That would be the best evidence so far that life exists on other planets."
A microchip inside the laptop separates left-handed and right-handed amino acids so scientists can determine the ratio. Researchers tested the chemical laptop last year at JPL's Mars Yard, a simulation of the Martian landscape. They'll do another test soon in the Atacama Desert in Chile in preparation to send the laptop to other worlds like Mars and Jupiter's moon Europa.

Red Planet Day: Top Mars conspiracy theories about alien life.

On Red Planet Day, IBTimes UK looks at the more extraordinary claims surrounding the search for life on the distant planet. The discovery of liquid water on Mars has led scientists to believe there is a much greater possibility of finding some evidence for life forms on the fourth rock from the Sun.

Alfred McEwen, professor of planetary geology at the University of Arizona, said: "The possibility of finding life in the interior of Mars is very high. There is water in the crust and we know Mars has received meteorites from Earth. Microbes can survive that trip, making it very likely life could be found in the crust of Mars."
Mars caused climate change on earth
Radio host Rush Limbaugh believes the news that there is water on Mars is part of a left-wing agenda. "I would assume it would be something to do with global warming... maybe there was once an advanced civilisation." The controversial radio host warned about 'dubious science' being used to promote the 'climate change agenda' on Earth.

Nasa is keeping secrets about life on Mars
Conspiracy Outpost has claimed that Nasa is withholding information about life on Mars, using the discovery of water on the red planet as a soft introduction to the public about the possibility of alien life without causing panic.
Below is an an image captured by the orbiting Mars Global Surveyor. Nasa called it a "huge rock formation ... which resembles a human head ... formed by shadows giving the illusion of eyes, nose and mouth." Conspiracy theorists leapt on the idea that the Face was concrete evidence that Nasa was hiding information about alien life on Mars.
Alien skeleton

Mysterious Mars lady
UFO Sightings website posted a Nasa photo which they believe shows an alien woman watching the Mars rover. The size of the female is tiny as the scale of the image would make the 'being' only 8cm to 10cm tall. Alien life hunter Scott C Waring said: "The woman seems to have breasts... indicated by the shadow on its chest. We also see two arms that are lighter in colour and what looks like a head with long hair."
Pyramid on Mars

Evidence of ancient Egyptian pyramids
YouTube channel Martian Archaeology posted a video showing what seems to be a number of eroded pyramid structures, including one with a Sphinx-like face, in NASA photographs of the rocky Red Planet surface.
Citing the "near-perfect design and shape" they argue the 'pyramid' is evidence that an ancient civilisation once lived on the red planet. While the pyramid is believed to be the size of a car, alien hunters speculate that a much larger structure is buried beneath.
Life on Mars was annihilated by a nuclear attack
An Indian probe caught some images of Mars that appeared to show a crater from a massive explosion on the surface of the red planet. This has fuelled speculation from scientists, including physicist and author John Brandenberg, that intelligent life was destroyed by a nuclear attack.
The author of Death on Mars said that many of the nuclear isotopes in Mars's atmosphere "resemble those from hydrogen bombs on Earth" and expands on the theory that a humanoid race once lived there but was wiped out.
"This Martian civilization apparently perished due to a planet-wide catastrophe of unknown origin," he writes, citing craters visible on the surface near the Curiosity Rover. "Was it a massive nuclear attack?"
An army outpost stocked with weapons and missiles
In April 2015, former United Nations worker Andre Gignac claimed that photos taken by a Mars rover revealed the existence of a bunker with at least one soldier. He also believed that the bunker could be an access point to another, even bigger underground site. "You can see a person behind the bunker's window," he told Cryptozoology News. He claims that "not far from this bunker are missiles, rockets and structures deployed in a circle."
Nasa fossilised iguana
Fossilised Martian iguana
It's not only little green men that might be lurking behind rock formations but also lizard life forms. Red Planet enthusiasts claim to have spotted a perfectly preserved fossilised iguana.
Apparently animal sightings are amongst the most prevalent claims. "This is not the first animal found on Mars, actually there have been about 10-15 to date," Waring told news site agoracosmopolitan.com.
Extra-terrestrial contractors at work
A set of pictures released by a NASA navigation camera appear to show a human-like figure working on the Mars Curiosity Rover. The 'workman' isn't wearing a helmet and he is wearing an airtank on his back. Gary McKinnon, an alleged computer hacker, reportedly obtained classified documents from the US government, claiming he found files showing the existence of "extra-terrestrial officers".

China Searches For Aliens? World's Largest Radio Telescope To Explore Far Reaches Of Space In 2016.

FAST chief scientist Nan Rendong told The Telegraph the telescope also has the capacity to scan for signs of life and renewable energy like natural hydrogen.

"A radio telescope is like a sensitive ear, listening to tell meaningful radio messages from white noise in the universe."

FAST is near complete. This week, scientists were installing 33-foot long triangular "retina" panels. Li Di, a chief scientist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences told China Daily, "So far, one of the most important steps has been completed. We will finish installing all the panels by June 2016, and strive to debug the whole system by the end of September."

Di explained FAST is basically a mega-TV antenna.

"With a larger signal receiving area and more flexibility, FAST will be able to scan two times more sky area than Arecibo, with three to five times higher sensitivity." Di is referring to the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, home of the world's now ex-largest radio telescope.

FAST is 1,640 feet in diameter and is made up of 4,500 triangular 36-foot long panels that create a parabolic reflector which will collect signals from the entire universe. Most of the panels can be controlled to move up or down, which means the hemispherical reflector can reshape.

University of Western Australia Astronomer Lister Staveley-Smith wrote an email to China Daily saying he believes the power of the radio telescope will "allow an extremely comprehensive study of thousands of galaxies in different environments in the local universe."

The project began construction in 2011 and is on track to be completed in September 2016. FAST is housed in southwest China's Pingtang County located in the Guizhou Province. Built in a rock basin, the world's largest radio telescope will stay protected from weather elements. The remote location provides "radio silence."

FAST will be even bigger than the previous radio telescope, The Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. Expedia

When NASA discovered Kepler-42b earlier this year, the prospect of finding life on an earth-like planet became more of a reality. Located 1,400 light years away, it would take modern spacecraft 26 million years to reach the far-distant exoplanet.

China is on a fast-track to be named king of the space race. Leaders in the U.S., Russia, and across the globe fear China's space intentions may be misguided. But politics aside, when FAST is finished it will be one of the most powerful tools the world has to explore the possibility of life in outer space.
