Women in Saudi Arabia Vote for the First Time

Well a step in the right direction right!

Women in Saudi Arabia participated in the country's elections — as both voters and candidates — for the first time ever on Saturday. Some 130,000 women had registered to vote, compared to 1.35 million Saudi men, and roughly 980 female candidates had run for municipal council seats as well, though not many are expected to win as they were outnumbered 6-1 by male candidates, according to the Associated Press. However, since the elections only fill two-thirds of the country's 3,000 or so council seats, it's possible that regardless of how women do electorally, some may later be appointed to the remaining seats — which are awarded based on needed expertise.

A ways to go I am thinking...

and women in the Kingdom are not allowed to drive and need the official permission of a male guardian, whether a family member or husband, to obtain higher education or travel abroad, among many other things.
