ww2 asian island deaths help

i had two uncles who supposedly died on the island attacks in the pacific during ww2,i dont have a clue how ,where,when.i dont think bodies were sent back to states.i have just hearsay.their last name was mahurin from texas or oklahoma,i didnt check ok,did check tx.anybody got a clue where to search.i went to national archives and found a list but it was real small.maybe what battle or battles,dates etc.any help would be greatful.
