To me, this looks a bit like US auto companies in the '70's that kept kidding themselves about foreign competition. China is generating vast numbers of scientists and engineers and will be capable of great feats collectively.

Imagine a day when China could issue a challenge: "Send your navy to the South China Sea and we will remove our warheads from our missiles and fire them at your ships.  See if you can evade them".  All the aircraft carriers would be obsolete overnight.  The offensive military power of the US would vanish as defense would triumph.

8thman, I have a question for you; are you familiar with the Phalanx Anti-aircraft and missile defense system?  Last time I looked, one Phalanx system can track and fire on approximately 56 targets at the same time, even below line of sight, out to a range of 250 nautical miles; considering every ship in a carrier task force has one, are you suggesting that China is going to launch 5 or 6 hundred cruise missiles at once against one carrier group? Seriously?

Oh, by the way, Phalanx is one of the systems we do know about that is battle proven; ever wonder what they haven't told us about yet?

Send a few missiles to explode close to the target and fill the sky with radar reflective chaff. In fact, in a massed attack, can any target be properly targeted?  And remember that as antiship missiles get faster - as with the Brahmos missile being supersonic - multiple missiles must be identified and shot down in seconds.

And what prevents stealth technology from being used on missiles?

I can't find the original article but Star Wars ideas were blasted at the time by scientists who pointed out that all such systems depend on radar - and that's the problem. I also recall criticisms of Patriot antimissile systems that suggested its effectiveness might be mostly imaginary - held in place by secrecy.

War games and other tests by the Pentagon are notoriously corrupt - to sell more weapons.
The Chinese DF-21 is designed to rise and evade defenses and crash straight down on deck.

Believe what you want  8) I trust my sources and their information, not the blather and bull poop from the spin doctors  :P dis-info is still dis-info, no matter the source or the intended target

I tend to disbelieve experts when I notice that they avoid specific technical points raised.
