What happened at Charlottesville?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about what happened at the Charlottesville incident.  Most people seem to be claiming that there was a neo-Nazi rally, with a counter-protest that not only involved relative centrists, but hard left Antifa as well.

The Right are being very defensive about it, though, and I keep encountering videos like this:-



I understand that people here tend to be conservative.  I'm hearing propaganda from both sides, as I said however, so I'd like to try and get a reasonably impartial explanation if I could.  I assume that there was less than saintly behaviour on both sides, at least from what I've heard.
