The Power Of Putin  Documentary 2017 BBC

Putin has created what he calls a "vertical of power," something unlike any we see in other great nations. As the Russian chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov -- himself a harsh critic of Putin -- has noted, the entire structure of Russian political power rests on one man. When the czar died, you knew the structure that would endure and the process by which his successor, his son, would be elevated. When the general secretary of the Soviet Communist Party died, the Standing Committee and the Politburo would select his successor. But when Putin dies, what will happen? No one knows.

A similar situation happened in Spain, with Franco, and what he chose was a return to monarchy after his death, that's why Spain is now a monarchy. During the Franco regime the king of Spain and his family lived in Portugal, at least most of the time.

A monarchy for Russia  would probably make the ghost of Czar Nicholas feel better, but the entire royal family was eliminated  a 100 years ago...

Unless Putin has the stage set for his chosen successor, it might get interesting in Russia when he either retires or expires...

Only time will tell unless Vladimir decides to share his ideas on the matter

It seems that anyone who tries to rise up to replace him as leader is putting their life in danger also.  The last one that did was gunned down on a street near the Kremlin from a snow plow no less.

He has an 85 percent approval rating according to reports.
