Clark County has extended an air quality advisory through Sunday as smoke from wildfires in California continues to flow into the valley.

Ozone levels also are on the rise due to weather conditions.

High smoke and ozone levels can affect young children and older residents, as well as people with respiratory illnesses or heart disease, according to the county's department of air quality.

Saturday starts another warming trend with the high temperature climbing to 110 degrees. Sunday will also reach 110 degrees, but an excessive heat watch will usher in the new workweek, the weather service said.

Monday's high of 111 should begin the watch, set to last through Wednesday.

Tuesday's temperatures are forecast to climb to 112 degrees, which would break the previous daily record of 111, set in 1994. The weather service said the high of 112 will be repeated on Wednesday.

Cooling stations will be available throughout the valley during the excessive heat watch, according to a Clark County release.

No in fact the Ranch Fire Mendocino Complex just doubled in size since we looked a few hours ago. Gobbling  uf the national forest  I see one small one in Bakersfield where our event is but that should be out soon

The Carr Fire is now 145,000 acres  6 deaths  so far  and it is growing  Containment was 41% earlier is now at 27%

That one was started by a flat tire.  The guy drove with the rim causing sparks that touched off the dry grass at the side of the road

Here is a fire watch map

Yesterday was the hottest day ever recorded in Lisbon, with a highest maximum of 44º C (111º F) and a minimum of 28.2º C (82.7º F).

At this moment (12:20), outside my windows is 32º C (89º F), in my room is 28º C (82º F).

It has been seriously hot in Nottingham since May with only a few days break.  Being of Scottish descent I'm just not built to cope with it.  Come back rain and wind, all is forgiven! :)

That hot weather is what we usually get in Portugal at that time of year, but as the Azores anticyclone has not been in its usual place over the Atlantic ocean but further north, those high temperatures have moved north.

PS: nice to "see" you again. :)

Likewise.

Yes, this anticyclone has given us Portuguese weather and Portugal are getting African weather.

Stay cool mate.  8)

That's interesting, as I can't see one reference to weather in all those quotes, so instead of "not terribly specific" it sounds more like "irrelevant" to me. :)

Oh, and citing the Bible is usually as interesting to me as citing the phone book. :P
My eyes glaze over the minute someone says the word.
Shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.....

If something is true then why would you need to constantly refer to a book that old?

Today things changed, as expected. Lisbon had a maximum of 33.3º C (92º F) at noon, but at 20:00 it was down to 22.1º C (72º F). Tomorrow they expect the maximum to be 26º C (79º F).

It's a little cooler here today too.  Tomorrow will be much cooler.  Heatwave over.

I think all the wildfires are gone now too.  I'm going to go out on a long cycle ride to celebrate.  :)

Not here. :(

Although the temperatures are much lower today we also have strong winds, so the big fire in the Algarve is still out of control.
