Blade Runner & HAL 9000 racist? 'Whiteness' of artificial intelligence 'exacerbates racial inequality,' new study suggests
QuoteA University of Cambridge study examining the depiction of artificial intelligence in film, television, Google searches, images, and voices, suggests it is yet another area that showcases racism.
While most would likely assume a machine cannot have a race, the researchers said that they do indeed have "racial identities" influenced by "real world" stereotypes.

These "racial identities" can be found in both the fact that AIs and depictions of AIs have caucasion features and also typically talk in "standard white middle-class English," including voices given to smartphone technology. The study suggests "black dialects" have been avoided because they are deemed "too controversial or outside the target market."

Because society has "for centuries, promoted the association of intelligence with white Europeans," the researchers argue that artificial intelligence and machines are given white characteristics to feed into the racial biases of both users and creators.

I would say the study itself could be considered much the same as they have selected only movies and shows that fit the narrative. It could be Argued that Star Trek is RACIST as well as most aliens in the show have English accents.

What a bunch of idiots.

Artificial intelligence (the real one, not the one in books and movies) depends on what we teach it, so if their input comes from white people it's natural that they behave as white people.

They could have limited the "study" to a much clear difference: the language spoken and understood by AI, as it's always English in English movies and English works. Those that make people that speak other languages to enter the field? No, it may even make some decide to enter the field because there's no AI that speaks their language.

Again, what a bunch of idiots.  ::)
