Thanks ArMap, it does explain, I am aware of erosion facilitated decaying as well, as for the puddle explanation that goes.
That Rover has been 'Jacked'!! LOL Wonder why that is the way it is, you would think that with the technology involved, would be a considerably tight ship.

shouldnt there be reports of the damage from initial startup?
if the report is from the first few days after landing, then i could kinda trust it.
if the report came in later than that, then nasa is scamming the public and need to be charged with fraud.
i would think heads would role over any damage to a rover.maybe folks at nasa are more lenient towards their colleages than average americans.
notice how the msm doesnt carry rover stories very often, like its a scam.
there should be new discoveries coming out daily but all we hear is mumbling.
ive never been much for rules.

I think we have found something very significant here.

You would not get sawn-off cables like that, hell i wouldn't have it on one of my 'final designs' LOL and if it was an 'accident' thing, the cables would be ripped apart, not sawn-off.

Did NASA remove some item at the last minute?

I find that hard to believe, something stinks, and it isn't the scotch eggs i had today.....
;D

This is typical of NASA, even a pic of their own bloody robot raises more questions than answers....

Took a while , but think I found what caused the cut lines in the picture:

QuoteThe Mars Science Laboratory will arrive at Mars on the late evening of Aug. 5 into the early morning of Aug. 6, careening into the atmosphere at 13,000 MPH. During the descent, it will shed its heat shield and deploy a parachute capable of surviving supersonic speeds. Once it's about 500 feet above the surface, the fun begins — rocket engines fire up to slow it down, gently lowering the Curiosity rover onto the surface. Once its wheels touch the ground, the hovercraft snips its umbilical cord and flies away to a crash landing.

So, it may be the remnants of where the hover craft snipped the umbilical chord after descent.

This is a very good thought..However, it seems like a
rather crude method of seperating hydraulic, air, or
electrical connections..A break-away connection
might have been safer for the rest of the unit. A
connection such as used by trailer brake air lines,or
farm implement hydraulic lines..
Though cutting the lines may have been more
positive, though riskey..

Pig tail coupling system would have been really dangerous, good for tractor trailer/Tractor wagon/equipment, not descent at 13K mi PHR.
Makes perfect sense too me.
It was triggered by descent fall and pressures, Cable length and time, was preplanned that way, Sky crane was the first used, so really significant for first time success.

I'm guessing that does not explain the dust-free areas around the bolt holes...  Just sayin'.

I have heard the other site mentioned numerous times, but I don't think they (Y! News) is doing this for disclosure, they are trying to warrant lunacy with in such forums.

No its not for disclosure its all about the links for cash. I have been studying it and trying my hand at it. Seems its easy to get paid to ad a simple link to one simple word on any page. Most people wouldn't even pay attention to it but robots know it's there.

And now that I see just how much that can be worth, wow ATS makes a KILLING :P

But I did see it was our buddy Arken that was the poster :D  I think he was registered here before the meltdown... maybe someone can pop over there and invite him back?

Still looks wierd to me, there are any number of 'quick release' systems for cables & pipes. It still sounds wierd that they would cut the cables like that. What did they cut it with? Did they have a cutting mechanism on board?
Over the top, IMO, when you could have a simple explosive bolt or solenoid that would be much smaller (lighter) & work just as well....

It still looks to me like they removed something at the last minute & didn't have time to remove/ tidy up the wiring.
Very shoddy work ::)

ATS pages take forever to load, due to all the animated ads & G**gle sh*t on the pages, it takes ages to read a thread there now ::)
Like i said, there's nothing wrong with a small ad or banner, but i don't want to have to wait 3 minutes for each page to load on this forum......

I don't have any problems with load speed, and I am on the other side of the Atlantic.

But Pegasus is faster. :)
