Strange Doings on the Sun

This is just another article that in its essence, while making some very interesting comments about the Sun, actually reveals how little we actually KNOW about the Sun, and our own Solar System.

The discussion on ths Sun's "oddest magnetic (pole) reversals on record" really makes the point of what we don't know.  I wonder if the fact of both Sun poles currently having the "same magnetic polarity" will make any differences in how the Sun and "Comet" ISON respond to one another, especially relative to any possibility of return orbital path differences for ISON????  :o :o :o ???

The writer of this article is obviously a "global warming" proponent, as while he recognizes that the
Sun's current lower activity could result in a decrease in global warming, he still contends that "it may give us a brief respite from global warming, but it is not going to stop it"!!!  :P :P :P

I am adding this August 6, 2013 article - "The Sun's Magnetic Field is About to Flip".

The OP article discussed this "Flip" in part, whereas this article is devoted to discussing the "Flip of the Sun's poles".

My question from the OP still remains - will/or does the polarity of the Sun's poles have any impact upon Comet ISON's trajectory/orbit around the Sun, and back into the Earth's side of the Sun ? Is anyone anywhere concerned about that, not that we could do anything about it anyway?

Since the North Pole of the Sun has changed polarity, but the South Pole has not, does that mean the the Sun is now a "monopole magnet", which is supposedly unheard of - ie, "The theoretical question as to the possible existence in any state of a single magnetic pole, called a monopole, is still considered open by physicists; experiments to date have failed to detect one".

Sun...

Poles flip every 11 years like clockwork :D

Global Warming

Global warming is REAL, the issue is whether or not man has anything to do with it or can control it...

Global warming causes the ice to melt wchich in turn triggers the next ice age...

415,000 Year Temperature Graph taken from ice core samples at Lake Vostok, Antarctica...

Notice that when the temps flip... it happens FAST
Notice that the Earth spends longer in cold cycles than warm cycles
Notice where we are today :D

My advice? Move South :P

Z we have seen this chart  several times and I have missed something until now. It looks like the green line is drawn in at 0 degrees and the red is in fehrenheit. But all of the numbers are below freezing so how can they tell what is really going on with the rest of the world. Now if this chart was in C not F then it makes sence. And someone just over wrote the word Fahreheit without doing any calculations. The 9C would be 48 F and ice would melt. Todays 5 F would be 41 degrees and we have ice melting. The chart seems to show warmer and colder Ice. if there is such a thing as colder ice. Any help there Z

That line where the red & green terminate is not stipulated, but it looks to be related to today's temps, not 0°.  And it looks like the temps are listed as how much warmer than today things have gotten.

I believe the line where the red goes up and the green goes down is whatever was chosen as a median average temperature for detailing the variances. The temp variance basically would show the same display of warm/cold variance, regardless of whether in "C" or "F".

Ok This is a world wide map of the base line changes

Combined bar and line graph showing changes in average temperatures worldwide from 1901 to 2012.

I can not find out what that 0 number is but it does not really matter, the chart is going up
On Zs chart it is going down But the down cycle happened over 15,000 years. If it is now going up why would we enter an ice age. A desert age I can see. That has happened before.

If Zs chart lines are in 5 degrees then it covers 40 degrees with the lines using about 33 degrees.
Not a lot of degree change is needed to make a big difference but which way are we really going down or up?

Certainly Z can answer for his own chart, but again, my understand of what Z's char depicts is, from and established temperature norm line, the past 10,000, the actual temps have been higher than the baseline norm. However, the chart depicts that for the past 5,000 years there has been an overall dropping of the temps, and is basically now down to about the baseline.

Assuming this temperature detail has some historic significance, please notice the years span for each of the warming (red) periods. They are quite short, relative to the cooling periods, and the current 10,000 year warming period is now already one of the longest. I believe that is the basis for anyone suggesting that this Earth is now into the final years before the moving into a prolonged cooling period, and maybe ice age in some regions. Notice that in the past 420,000 years, there have been about 380,000 years of cooling period, and only 40,000 years of warming above the baseline. That is a very dramatic difference in years, as well as the cooling periods dive much farther down below the baseline, than do the warming periods rise above it.

Without not knowing how and why that chart is lined up, then the change line can be anywhere.
Example,

I put it closer to the average..If that is so then we have thousands of years to go yet before I break out the snow gear. In other words that chart needs more data for that line. If the average is guessed at or real I don't know how they could figure it out. I can't even find out what the averabe is today.
Maybe 25C...

Within a large-scale trend there will be fluctuations up and down a bit.  To look at a few years' behavior gives no clue about the overall trend.

To say, Look!  Temps have risen over the last few decades! is to ignore what the trend over the last 10,000 years is.  And the overall trend right now is downward.  In fact, the "global warming" crowd had to change its tune to "climate change" (as if climates never change!) when the warming leveled off in this last decade.

So, yeah, the temp fluctuated a bit upward recently.  It does NOT mean Humans were "at fault."  In fact, considering that statistically speaking, Humans don't exist on this planet, it's mighty presumptuous to think We can have that great an impact.
