Comic Sans. A font many don't think of until they see it, and many still can't name the font they find annoying. That's okay, short of taking typography courses from people who make fonts their life passion (really..those people DO exist!), how many people know fonts beyond Times New Roman, Arial or Helvetica/Garamond? No need to. We just know what looks and feels right, eh?

This is normal type.

This is comic sans.

The difference may be slight to some (like me), but to some others? It's like a big <STOP> sign if it doesn't fit well. (Typography attracts odd folks. I tell ya)

Folks odd enough, in fact, to make a whole typewriter dedicated to just that one font!

QuoteThe idea came to Pittsburgh designer Jesse England one night in September, when he was lying in bed reading a comic that used a typewriter-style font in its lettering.

"It just struck me there was nothing stopping me from making a typewriter that could use a different font," he said.

naww.. Nothing but decency and a sense of compassion for his fellow man. lol...

QuoteHe could have used any font, but he chose Comic Sans "to provoke a reaction."

"If I'd made it in Helvetica people would've just observed it as a little design experiment," he said in a phone interview Saturday. Instead, by altering a classic machine to type one of the most polarizing fonts, he hopes to make people think about how they consume, generate and store media.

Well, you can't say he wasn't successful. To folks who either work with type for their real job like me, or love it like a life passion to match some of the instructors I've had? He certainly made himself something to be noticed. At least by writer types.
