Mars Anomalous Surface Area - Mars Orbiter

I have found an area at the South Pole of Mars that has the appearance of numerous structures of various design. These are in a CTX photo taken by the Mars Orbiter space craft, so the basic photo is taken at a "slant distance of 255.12 km. That means for us to see anything, the basic photo has to be significantly magnified. And when magnified, there are some surprising features that can be seen.

I have looked at each of the CTX image formats, including JPEG, PNG, and TIFF and the anomaly features are there in each of them. Obviously, the anomalies are easier to see when fully magnified, but as the pic is de-magnified, the anomalies remain seeable as the pic gets smaller. I am not jumping to any hard conclusions about this ........yet, but I do think it worthwhile to post now, for each of you to also have an opportunity to see it roo. I will post a screenshot with and a link to the CTX photo. This specific anomalous area can be found in the CTX pic near the lower left end, and near the top edge of the photo.

I look forward to your comments - pixels or structures??!! :)

FWIW - for whatever reason, none of the CTX photo formats are now showing the possible anomalies mentioned/shown above?? This just changed this afternoon?? Are these photos being messed with still? Maybe they will change back!! :)

Well, I just went back to the CTX link, and the anomalies did show at first, then they went away??????. Is that "dancing pixels" or what?? :)

I'm downloading the IMG file, as that's the one closest to the original and, in some cases, the only with the full resolution. :)

What's the source of the image you posted? It looks full of JPEG artefacts.

ArMaP, the image I posted above was probably a JPEG. This link is the same in PNG format. I also had this yesterday, but this one I just downloaded this morning - a JPEG from the above PNG link. The anomalies/artifacts are still there in this photo, but not a clear as in the OP photo.

By the way ArMaP, if you will notice in the full pics, just to the left of this area in the disk anomaly I posted here July 2012, and now in the current pic data, it is not there in some, and in others, in sone it is there but different, and in others it is now not-seeable as a disc looking feature. Also, it seems to be now viewable from a different angle than in photos of 2012. ??

I remember the disc. :)

Here's the "anomalous surface" at full resolution, taken from the IMG file and converted to PNG. I adjusted the levels with no reduction of the number of colours.

And the "disc".

PS: I suggest you get NASAView, as it allows you to open the IMG files, and, as you can see, those are much better than the JPEG, PNG, etc. versions they post.

PPS: As the image is too big I used ISIS instead of NASAView, but ISIS works only in Linux-based systems.
