I have been wondering if a de facto disarmament of the US and its allies could take place - as existing 27 year old planes fall out of the sky while the F-35 is declared "ready".  If it isn't, given its expense and upkeep, much of the Western world could find itself in trouble - and unable to recover militarily for years.
