In March I placed my elderly mother in a Dementia Care Unit. As a result of this I inherited her elderly cat who barfs everywhere every day despite being an incredibly healthy 18 years old.

Today I hit the wall on the barfing after doing everything possible to minimize staining of the carpeting in my home. He's on all-natural food with no dyes, etc., but there is still some staining and I'm tired of doing this by hand.

I called a local vac repair shop and asked them what portable carpet shampooer they recommend. He told me Bissell's machines are good, but he didn't have any and directed me to the big box stores.

I did some internet research then headed over to Target and picked up a Bissell SPOTBOT Pet.

Holy cow! This thing is awesome. You fill one tank with hot water, carpet shampoo, and a booster (H2O2, I think) and plug it in. You place the machine over the spot and push a button.

There are two brushes that do the work, one rubber and one stiff nylon bristle. The cycle lasts between six and ten minutes and completely removes even old stains.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Yes, I'm lazy. I'm old and I'm tired and I'm waiting for my robot butler.

I did some research into stain removers and the booster that is recommended for the shampooer I bought.

The formula for the stain remover, and it is recommended by major carpet manufacturers, is a 4:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide to ammonia. You can add a few drops of dish soap if desired. They recommend Dawn.
