Selling  items on Ebay .

I know that Zorgon sells items on Ebay...and may other members have done.

I had a quick look at ebays website about the cost involved to sell various items..
but it seems a bit more complex that I initially thought... I assume depending what you sell.

But as I understand you have to pay a small fee to sell even small or cheap items upfront or before the item is listed...

Can I ask... does anyone know what the general fee / fees are to say just sell average everyday type items...   I cannot seem to find the lowest cost fees for a 1st attempt to sell average type items that I thought would had been made clear on ebays website..

There is a ref to Private sellers that it says its FREE..

Does this refer to General users being Private sellers  Like any of PRC members or anyone virtually who chooses to use ebay...

or is a Private seller someone who opts as a private seller ..but it still makes a ref to paying optional or upgrade fees ....!

QuoteListing and final value fees

It's free to list for private sellers on eBay
. Every month you can create up to 1,000 listings for free; you'll just need to pay any Optional Upgrade fees and a Final value fee when your item is sold.

You would think it would tell you early on one the websites page in the initial paragraphs...
But I cannot seem to see it made obvious to me ...
it seems to make ref to fees only for more detailed type selling ad methods..

What fees you'll pay

From 1 April 2019, we'll be making a change to Listing fees, Final value fees and Optional Listing Upgrade fees for Vehicles categories (excluding Parts & Accessories). Learn more about the new fees here.

We know that selling on eBay is a choice. When you sell with us, you get access to our massive marketplace for a fair price. Find out why you should sell on eBay or start selling now.
..

is it a general type fee of say 0.20 to  0.50 Cent (USA) or 0.20 to 0.50 Pence (UK)  to say sell items between 5 to 20  or say 50 to 100 dollars or GBPs or a small % of the sell price to say .

UPON SELLING... do you get the money back if the item does not sell ?  or is it a cost you have to risk to atempt to sell items.. even if you have to try more than one time selling it...

so say I have items between $10 to $100  or maybe upto $500.... when trying to sell.. what would I be expected to pay upfront ? on average

I am not including selling larger items like Cars and Houses...

I  think the website below indicate general items either sell at  £0.35 per item or 10% in the UK..

I dont think you can sell some initial items for FREE say for your 1st  1 to 5 sales... so I think you have to pay 1st time..or 1st transaction..

but this I think maybe if you have signed up for an ebay shop..  but you only qualify for that once you sold some initial items... I assume at a different fee...

So if I am selling items for the 1st time and do NOT have a  EbaySHOP  where you get discounts.. or can sell some items free..

QuoteListing and final value fees

It's free to list for private sellers on eBay. Every month you can create up to 1,000 listings for free; you'll just need to pay any Optional Upgrade fees and a Final value fee when your item is sold.

List up to 1,000 items a month for free, or more if you have an eBay Shop. After your free items, each item you list costs £0.35. If you choose to relist your item, Listing (also called Insertion fees) and Optional listing upgrade fees will apply again. If you chose to list your item with a Good 'Til Cancelled duration, Listing and Optional listing upgrade fees apply every 30 days. This excludes Classified Ads listings and items listed in the Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles category.

If you chose to list your item with a Good 'Til Cancelled duration, Listing and Optional listing upgrade fees apply every 30 days and these don't count towards your monthly free allocation. This excludes Classified Ads listings and items listed in the Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles or Property category. All existing selling limits on your account (as well as category and item limits) still apply, and may prevent you from using your entire allocation of free listings.

When your item sells you pay 10% of the final transaction value, including postage. We call this a final value fee. We cap final value fees so you will never pay more than £250 for a single item.

If your item doesn't sell you usually don't pay any final value fee. However, if you offer or reference your contact information to another user or ask a buyer for their contact information, in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, we will charge a final value fee for introducing you to the buyer. In this case, the final value fee is the higher of the fixed price, auction start price, Buy it now price, Reserve price or the price identified between the buyer and seller, as the case may be

After all that I said above... I THINK maybe I found some of the other fee prices for certain types of ads etc.. that I was trying to enquire about for the UK anyway !....

but I am still unsure what the lowest cost fees maybe..

Selling  items on Ebay .

Step One  You need a Paypal Account

Step Two  paypal account needs to be linked to a bank account (I opened an account just for that purpose so it's not attached to my regular account

Step Three

Ebay allows a NEW SELLER 50 listings per month for the first 3 months probation. Listing is free for those 50 items

Listings expire at the end of 30 days unless you are using the auction setting

Ebay fees upon selling are approximately 10% and 10% of shipping charge

You can purchase a store for more listings. No there is no refund on listing fees so you have to be careful to use the FREE listings they offer

You CAN use the Ebay multi listing category  and put more items per list but that doesn't work on auction or allow make an offer

Etsy is .20 cents per listing and allows multiple items in one listing. Etsy listings expire after 4 months. Etsy fees are approx 3% There is no limit or store fee but they are restricted to certain categories

Amazon is 99 cents to list collected ONLY when it sells and there is no expiry date on the listing. An Amazon store can be purchased for 40.00 a month (which can be turned on or off as needed) That is beneficial to list items not already on Amazon but there is no saving if you post less than 40 items per month at the .99 cent rate

zorgon

forget all the extra listing fees like title gallery plus etc  they just suck money and you gain NOTHING

Auction is useless UNTIL you have enough buyers that watch your auctions  I always use 'Buy it Now' with 'Make and offer' setting  then decide on a one on one what I will accept as lowest

problem with auction is when your new   no one finds you and the item usually sells to first bidder for 99 cents

NEVER EVER use "free shipping"

here is my store  we maintain about 1000 items a month

Many thanks "Z" for your explanations and clarifications  on my Ebay queries.

It is good of them to offer a certain ammount of Free Listings..

That helps to get a familiarity with ebay in the initial stages without risking payments... and may give an idea what may or may not sell... without testing the waters using ones capital...

cheers !

Hi Zorgon,

Wow !  that would seem impressive if you found a demand for such a thing !

was that your sale ?

I will by all means try to do so if I can arrange to get there...

I have not actually been there as yet... its one of many places I have still yet to visit even in my own country...

I visted Hastings many years ago thats the closest that I go to the White Cliffs...

But I have flown over them  so seen them as such  !   :)

I would well imagine that you could do similar in the USA... either rocks from around Area 51 or death valley or the Grand Canyon... al close to where you live !...

I did obtain some rocks from the Canyon some years ago.... but I misplaced them and could only carry a few in my rucksack when I went down to the Colorado one day...

Finding what sells on ebay maybe overall hard to find as I am sure in the past many a thing was well worth selling, but as more and more got involved .. finding the right things seem hard to do..

if one could create or make something that appeals in someway and make on a daily / weekly or monthly demand.. that would be very good...

Recently there has been a new fad occur in the UK for Books and CDs / DVDS  on a site called
ziffit.com that I am also looking into as I have  alot of dvds thatI am considering to sell..

https://www.ziffit.com/

BUT I had thought that there was no longer much demand as so much is for free now online..

if there is a way to now sell dvds and a demand for collectors wanting the originals  that ziffit have found a market for.... then maybe we should buy some on ebay and sell on ziffit ! ...

or do you think its not likely to be as good as maybe that they are suggesting !

I will let you know if I can get to the white cliffs or any other place that you may ask about in the UK..
if I can get the time and money together to get there...
