That's a big project.

You will need Kerry's permission to use the McKinnon video too. :P

How about filming a round table conference between you, John maybe if he feels okay (hug for you John  :-*), sarge if he can get there and a few of you others that might make a hit on yt.

I can hear the footsteps of those mib now to your doors.  ;D and that can be another yt.
I know that I know nothing - thanks Capricorn.

Then hit record on Debut and viola you have a movie file ready to be edited or uploaded as is.
Upload "as is" is not a good idea, as YouTube will convert the video to FLV format, and they use too much compression.

I prefer to convert to FLV myself and then upload the videos, that way the quality is the once I chose. :)

QuoteAlso, if you have a reduced tab (or minimized process) running a video clip in media player and also some images up in a photo or paint program that is also minimized, you can easily switch to those and back during your interview to illustrate what is being discussed.
It's easier to do that in "post-production" by using Movie Maker.

Pimander

Good advice about the compression, ArMaP.  Thanks mate.

Upload "as is" is not a good idea, as YouTube will convert the video to FLV format, and they use too much compression.

Debut allows you to save the video in any codec you want, including FLV if that is your choice, so it is indeed ready to upload "as is" depending on which codec you prefer.

According to wikipedia -

Quote
"Quality and codecs

YouTube originally offered videos at only one quality level, displayed at a resolution of 320x240 pixels using the Sorenson Spark codec (a variant of H.263),[54][55] with mono MP3 audio.[56]

In June 2007, YouTube added an option to watch videos in 3GP format on mobile phones.[57] In March 2008, a high quality mode was added, which increased the resolution to 480x360 pixels[58]

In November 2008, 720p HD support was added. At the time of the 720p launch, the YouTube player was changed from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a widescreen 16:9.[59]

With this new feature, YouTube began a switchover to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC as its default video compression format.

In November 2009, 1080p HD support was added. In July 2010, YouTube announced that it had launched a range of videos in 4K format, which allows a resolution of up to 4096x3072 pixels.[60][61]

YouTube videos are available in a range of quality levels. The former names of standard quality (SQ), high quality (HQ) and high definition (HD) have been replaced by numerical values representing the vertical resolution of the video.

The default video stream is encoded in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format, with stereo AAC audio.[62]"

So it appears the current codec they are using is - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC - if one is concerned about re- encoding.

If anyone has more recent information please chime in.

I did some experiments a few months ago along this line, and what I found was -

Using VirtualDub to make a transfer of an original DV file (Digital Video) to several different codecs and look at how they compared to the original.

H264 was a little better than FLV (not much), but they both showed noticeable degredation on high resolution stuff.

Actually Xvid turned out to be the best and looked very close to the original, almost undetectable.

I then uploaded all 3 versions to youtube and examined the results again.

Same thing as before, Xvid won out.

I can put up some samples if anyone is interested, or, try it yourself.

re: inserting visuals during presentation

That tip was designed to fill seekers requirements of simplicity for the interviewer -

2 webcams and a piece of software and bingo we have liftoff!  8)

That particular solution is super easy and anyone can pull it off, thus encouraging any of our members anywhere in the world to make one.

Afterwards, anyone with the inclination and skills to attempt post production is a bonus, but not required.

Also, some interviews might be advertised in advance and done live with an audience watching, so being able to bring up visuals would be nice.

Thanks for that info, A51Watcher. :)

It looks like I have to update my knowledge about YouTube videos. ;D

Well hey Armap,

I'm don't claim to be an expert and am just going on what I have found by hands on.

That time a few months ago when I was experimenting and searching around video forums and asking questions, I got a few snarky replies from supposed experts who basically said "Why would you want to use anything else besides H264 for anything?" as if I should somehow know better. (As Steve Martin would say... "well exCUUUUSE MEEEE!")  ;)  ;D

All I know is what I saw on my screen doing direct comparisons, using default settings on all codecs, or highest quality setting if there was an option.

I have no problem using any codec from anyone as long as the results show the best quality.

Just don't invite this group.  May have increased traffic, but ohhh my they were exhausting folks.  Kinda rude too!

I have to agree here we need to open the flood gates now or lose out to the likes of ATS
I have been over there posting on the sandy shootings and it is just like shooting fish in barrels.

Even i can hold my own over there and win many debates easily and yet more come along to add
to an otherwise dead thread.

Here we all agree (mostly) when a lot came here it was cos we were sick of ignorance and now its stalemate.
we DO need people no matter how incompetent they are at critical thinking,it just add's input and they (Trolls)
LOVE to be fed.eventually they learn but only about what you have told them in a great battle of facts and wit.
Then there still about for the next topic and the process starts all over it is fun.

As for advertising i dont mind a bit cos i never click on any of the banners but some may but THAT may be for another topic.

YES this is very important and needs sorting soon.
I for one am not happy about content being looted and i am not about to have an epic body of work
fall into the lap of any one who wish's to take credit for zorgon and or john's work on space command.

this just cannot be allowed to happen but it is and it's NOT COOL.
plagiarism is the word i think. There needs to be some copyright loophole? come on! think for me on this one please
I spotted the work of Z's over at more than one web site with not a hint of the author or a link!nothing!

REALLY UN-COOL.

FWIW - I really don't know much about it, but, I think that clicking advertisements does bring some income to the website owner(s).

Z, is that right or not?

robomont

when all this goes down,i hope im allowed in the private area with like minds.
i prefer a temporary stalemate rather than dealing with trolls.
adds are a pain because they place them where its easy to accidentally click on them.

i know most of you guys arent mobile users but mobile is the future and this should be factored in when thinking for the future.

some might say otherwise but as the economy gets tuff, the web at home gets cut but the unlimited phone is kept for as long as possible.plus our future sharkfood is the youth and they live by mobile.

i agree some kinda copywrite thing would be great.but its the idea that gets stolen, not the words.
maybe we have to accept that our brethren here could rip us at any minute.nothin we could do really.
