Pentagon: The Chinese stole our newest weapons

QuoteThe designs for more than two dozen major weapons systems used by the United States military have fallen into the hands of the Chinese, US Department of Defense officials say.

Blueprints for the Pentagon's most advanced weaponry, including the Black Hawk helicopter and the brand new Littoral Combat Ship used by the Navy, have all been compromised, the Defense Science Board claims in a new confidential report.

The Washington Post acknowledged late Monday that they have seen a copy of the report and confirmed that the Chinese now have the know-how to emulate some of the Pentagon's most sophisticated programs.

"This is billions of dollars of combat advantage for China," a senior military official not authorized to speak on the record told Post reporters. "They've just saved themselves 25 years of research and development."
"It's nuts," the source said of the report.

Quote"If they got into the combat systems, it enables them to understand it to be able to jam it or otherwise disable it," Winslow T. Wheeler, director of the Straus Military Reform Project at the Project on Government Oversight, told the Post. "If they've got into the basic algorithms for the missile and how they behave, somebody better get out a clean piece of paper and start to design all over again."

Jam it or disable it? why? they will likely turn it on ourselves. I bet that any of their "re-designs" would STILL include components made in China. I also would put money on the new systems still being put on the same old network for all the hackers to find. It seems common sense may be the most formidable weapon. I guess that being said we lost the battle there.  :P

Plans stolen from ASIO building in suspected cyber attack

QuoteBeijing, riding a wave of robust economic growth, has been building up its military—and while the report does not accuse China's government of stealing the designs, such intrusions could help the world's most populous country enhance its armed forces.

The Post published the list of compromised systems here. It includes drone video systems, "directed energy" (a category that includes lasers and the like) and advanced Patriot missile systems. Also compromised were designs for the F/A 18 fighter jet, V-22 Osprey, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and the Navy's new Littoral Combat Ship meant to prowl the coasts. The list also includes the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) designed to shoot down ballistic missiles.

Well, I suppose that can't blame Wiki Leaks for this one, but none the less, if mil is going too leave these types of top Secr3t information unsecured, or rather easy to hack, then I guess there will always be these issues.

Lets just hope that these types of scenario's don't back fire and catch the US and it's allies put of there Kevlar vests.. ???

I really fail to see why a Mil network need's to even touch a public network.  But in saying so I knew someone once who worked for a major telco here in Oz who also happened to make a network in a navy base and he said there were 3 switches.

It would be nice to hear the story's of how much the west has hacked other country's dang it so we get a balanced story :D

Actually 1ww i think if anything it make's those that search obscure PUBLIC DOMAIN Mil Doc's more at risk than anyone sadly  :(

Yes, I was discussing this with 'Z' about some intel on the tether information and how almost every 'USED TOO BE' public domain has now been shut down. Error after error page notifications. really is sad when they can't even admit to the fact of the matters.

Yes, but is rather important when one thinks about things like this happening, making the Civvies more aware as it were. But totally agree with you here Soma. ;)

Sometimes I think they are going to get more PO-ed when the general Public finds out that they were misappropriating funds throughout these endeavor's. I personally feel both Violated and on edge over the whole debacle of Mil contracts and advanced weapon*y as a whole. Something has got to give somewhere I guess. :(

You may very well be right Soma. I can't understand why advancements in Wea9onry is more vital than a new cheaper/Free form of energy. Spend trill's on these kind of Mil active endeavor's and then they bitch about not having funds too take care of our infrastructures and tax us more and more. Gigas thread says it all for that topic. Things are going down dark paths, and I for one don't like the climate I am personally feeling, if you know what I mean. ;)

I have seen that Ellirium had placed a thread dealing with subject too, so if there is a MOD available  looking at this thread, Can you please merge them for us, they are the same story line after all. Sorry for the double thread posting a head of time guy's & Gal's, was unintended. :-[

Threads merged.... I kept the new title though because its more on topic and thus easier fro people to find in search..

On the "leak"

If ANYONE thinks that this was 'hacked' by Chinese.... I have a great deal on some property on TITAN for ya   8)

This was a deliberate leak of tech that is getting old and gives them an excuse to

A) spend more money developing new tech and the public will gladly allow it because "...the Chinese stole our stuff"

B) Blame it on hackers, giving them an excuse to tighten up even more what they already released to the public

Somamech

This leave's the public in a state of cold hard paranoia, blind nationalism or worse still, paranoia.

No stone seem's to be left unturned when it come's to so called leader's ruling the roost.

I like to think they forgot a few stone's though that will bite them in the rear end :D

The ONLY way that this stuff was not on the Secret and Top Secret networks that CANNOT be accessed from the web is if SOMEONE deliberately posted it on the web. Chinese hackers may be good... but they would need to access a .mil terminal directly.

Wiki leaks had over 250,000 leaked documents but all those were simply inter department embassy chit chat and gossip. Sure it caused some damage in the embassy circle but how many REAL leaks did we get in all that? I have yet to see ONE that is relevant to anything we care about.

There may be one but I never saw it and the ATS crowd went through most of them

You all here believe the government can keep all secrets from leaking about Aliens and UFO's yet at the same time you think that top military secrets are just lying around carelessly

Does that make sense?

The most plausible circumstance is that this was a deliberate leak. Also if China wanted to attack the USA, they had the best opportunity under Mao... when everyone in China was under the gun and they had all those nukes.

Today the new policy in China is Communist Capitalism... in other words people are allowed to make as much money as they want, so long as they keep their nose out of politics.  Its working too :P Prices in China are skyrocketing

I just learned from Ebay that the US Post Office has placed an office in China... making China a US postal address and they now ship stuff in a few days

Things are not as they seem.

Don't forget that our oil barons are working with China to run pipelines to Tibet

Don't forget that the US Customs allows Chinese merchandise to flow unchecked. Chinese jewelers have an advantage  a .99 cent item on ebay with free shipping can beat all US competition. There is no duty or tarif on those sales.  How can they do it? Simple  the exchange rate/dollar value. Last I checked the buying power of .99 USD in Chine is equivalent to $30.00 in China based on average wages

Back when I was working conventions one of our clients was a Chinese company.  They brought a few workers with them and they were allowed to work under limited conditions (Union rules)  They told me that coming to the US shows was a real privilege because they made in a day what they would earn in a week back home

Don't forget that Buzz Aldrin and Dr Baker are working on anti gravity with the Chinese

China is our business Partner...  but we cannot just outright give them our military tech without causing a stir (need to keep up appearance like that Russian Cold War :P)

But a leak that blames anonymous hackers.... well THAT works out for everyone :D

Well thanks to Zorgonite he fixed my Tard :D

But yeah getting back to basic's of us Pegonuaght's getting all happy about posting some obscure public domain doc to back up our first hand "heard it in the ear" from a gen mil sort person is becoming quite tricky sadly!

Somamech

And I am not too sure why people worry about China, they have their own demons to worry about, which are huge as in HUGE :D

Okay let's clarify that....

A) It still IS in public domain...  yes they shut down that first website "hyperspace.nrl.navy.mil"  That was moved to "http  ://projects.nrl.navy.mil" and then to a secured site with https

B) They gave me permission to copy ALL the pages and files so while the links back to the original page no longer work, my pages contain all the data and the PDF's are in storage waiting for me to fix the database

Most .mil sites these days that have public info are of two types

1) The public showcase. Which is usually promo stuff and basic whats happening stuff and an interface for the public  example... the NAVY SPAWAR site...

A while back I posted a direct link to some space related pages. A week later they were gone. I have since found them again but I will no longer post direct links to stuff because they always move it. Why? Because a page that maybe got 1 or 2 hits a month suddenly gets a 1000 a day when posted on ATS or other site  and that sends up red flags.

SPAWAR now has a PUBLIC portal
http://www.public.navy.mil/spawar/Pages/default.aspx

The original Spawar address is now under https

2)  Most .mil sites when you access them the first time will require you to accept a certificate sometimes 2 or 3  and then warning will pop up :D  This usually scares off most looky loos :D

I once posted a link on ATS and everyone that just landed on that thread page got a certificate pop up LOL  I had to stop that

The public info is still public... but intended for access to US citizens not just anyone in the world. So you have to dig for it and save a copy. Even NASA moves stuff around and more than that they have thousands of url's for specific topics so you really have to know WHAT to ask for

The TiPS tether info was an old experiment in 1996... the military tends to move on and just drop old stuff.  Same as main stream news sites  After a few years the articles are removed. BBC archives ALL their stories but not most sites

And finally don't forget to search the internet archives. They have 313 pages archived for projects.nrl.navy.mil

i agree with zorgon.clamp down on internet and the american tech is junk.the real stuff is in file cabinets.
