While sifting through old maps of the Viking orbiter missions on Google Mars, I came across something that got me a bit confused. It's the colorization and shading of the imagery that got me thinking.

Actually, I just wanted to see what certain areas look like on the Viking maps. But then I noticed the rather clear difference between dark surface features and the lighter ones. While rotating the globe for a while, some of these extensive dark-areas somehow reminded me of something very familiar:

Next thing a person would have to do is configure elevations of the shaded areas and then establish a water impression of some sorts, then create a Virtual world out of Mars and then compare, who knows what there is we don't know?

Well South America on Mars  if you look at the big rectangle is horizontal (about center)  so to get this result requires rotation to match

I am sure ArMaP is thinking the work "Pareidolia"

Its well interesting and like has been said it took a bit of jiggering.  But The Mil are good at letting NASA play with the Jiggering.

I think it was the MIA Yeti John Lear said it was "Maplan Systems or some company named similar to that"  who were doing the Rover imagery at some point on Earth. I looked the company up at the time the Yeti posted that and they do exist.  And as we all know Yeti's know a bit more than most

No, I was thinking that maybe what creates large shapes on the planet's surfaces follows some kind of "rule" that applies everywhere.

After all, if the clouds look like clouds on Mars, why wouldn't some huge ground features on Mars look like huge ground features on Earth?

Heck when I used to work for a Japanese Company someone said how they walked into a Boeing Facility and saw what is a Kinetic Energy Weapon.  I helped him on that via the description he gave.  This person is not on the CT roll Call either or someone who may Make up the story.
