Only for you fitness fanatics maybe.. :-\ .In the Summer the temperatures would be unbearable to the average person.

In the summer we hang out in AC controlled Vegas Casinos :P

This is on the Third Floor :D Costs you nothing to hang out and no  that is not sky but it does do sunsets

but while the rest of the country is covered in SNOW  its fantastic out here

So yeah gets hot for a few months in the Desert  but you can always go UP where its cooler :D

Yeah, I visited the Venetian  hotel as well...seeing a canal run through it with the Gondola and Square with all the various shops was a real surprise..

Quite incredible I must say...

With so many variations in Vegas who needs to travel the World  :D

But it is nice to get away from all the hustle and bustle and go out into the quieter desert areas if its not too hot..

Around Mt Charleston was also nice and cool and had some snow still at certain altitudes even in late spring..with the views looking down towards Nellis AFB and the NTS range and towards Area 51..

Yeah people think Nevada is a Desert like the Sahara :P  but its actually quite varied

At the high end you have Mt Charlseton as you say. The peak is at 11,000 feet so snow in June is possible. There is a small County run ski resort... small but really nice setting. You can ski in the morning and drive down to the lake for a swim LOL

So when I miss snow I just need a 35 minute drive from my house

Then go 35 minutes the other direction and rent a boat

200 some miles to explore and fish. It goes all the way to Mesquite and can be seen from Johns mine. You can see it in the background of his photo above

Hi "Z",

Yes it is quite varied in parts of Nevada..

The lower parts maybe more Desert Like scrub land..but with the Mountain areas, it offers other type of terrain...

Lake Mead is similar to Lake Powell...that was flooded land if I recall... Is Lake mead flooded land ?

If I recall, Lake Mead is part of the Colorado that passes through the Grand Canyon area..

Did not realise that you could see it from Johns Mine !   ???

Was you aware that there is a Small like town up on the MT Charleston slopes that is classed as purely Private ?
Ie No Visitors allowed in ! Its fenced off ....

I never new such places existed..It must be for the very Rich folks or maybe the ex Mafia dons from the profits they made in Vegas.  :P

It's "Winter Forward" now, not "Spring Forward"

Here are my thoughts from that thread:

The time change used to be a month from now.
In Spring.
It's still Winter until the 20th.

They moved up the date to March in 2005.
It used to begin on the first Sunday in April.
So... doesn't anyone suspect it was changed for some hidden, nefarious reason?
I do.
But I can't put my finger on it.
But that Sun rising 2 days early in Greenland thing comes to mind:

Plus degrees in December (Polar night ends TWO DAYS early? )

And the Boat/Smile Moon thing too.

It used to be even later than the first Sunday in April. Originally, in 1966, Daylight Savings Time was scheduled for the last Sunday in April

"From 1945 to 1966, there was no federal law regarding daylight saving time, so states and localities were free to choose whether to observe it, and could choose when it began and ended. By 1962, the transportation industry found the lack of nationwide consistency in time observance confusing enough to push for federal regulation. This drive resulted in the Uniform Time Act of 1966 (P.L. 89-387). The act mandated standard time within the established time zones and provided for advanced time: clocks would be advanced one hour beginning at 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday in April and turned back one hour at 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday in October. States were allowed to exempt themselves from DST as long as the entire state did so. If a state chose to observe DST, the time changes were required to begin and end on the established dates. In 1968, Arizona became the first state to exempt itself from DST. In 1972, the act was amended (P.L. 92-267), allowing those states split between time zones to exempt either the entire state or that part of the state lying within a different time zone. The newly created Department of Transportation (DOT) was given the power to enforce the law. Currently, the following states and territories do not observe DST: Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.[2]

"From 1987 to 2006, daylight saving time in the United States began on the first Sunday of April...By the Energy Policy Act of 2005, daylight saving time (DST) was extended in the United States beginning in 2007. DST currently starts on the second Sunday of March, which is three or four weeks earlier than in the past...

This might have something to do with it. But what's the real reason for the changes. Is something else changing that they hope we won't notice by moving it up, and up again?

The other thing that pops into my head when considering this subject is the quote from Matthew 24:22 concerning the "end times" -
Matthew 24:22
"And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened."

This has been on my mind for a while as you can see from the this post from May 2011 that I inserted into this thread a few posts back.

What Is Wrong With The Time The Sunsets??

At the outset in 1966 Daylight Savings Time was scheduled for the last Sunday in April. But this has changed...

If we were going by the original 1966 schedule the time change wouldn't be for Another Seven Weeks!

Seven weeks difference!

If something is off kilter, and if the thing that is off kilter needed to be kept from the general public, what would that thing be that could be made less noticeable by moving the time change up by seven weeks over the course of 46 years?

The day the time changed in 1966 was also "Z-Day" in the original "Night of the Living Dead". The first occurrence of daylight savings time in the U.S. as well. April 23/24 1966.

And the radio reports in the film state that the event began a few days previous to that particular Sunday night).

Just a tidbit of trivia..

Just a reminder that originally (in 1966) the time change one hour forward would have happened over the last weekend, two days ago on April 28th. It now happens at the beginning of March. Why that's 49 days earlier. Almost two months earlier.

Interesting, yes?

Wow, that was some post "this_is_who_we_are"

A lot to try to take in , follow and understand...

But my Initial thoughts are you are one who has observed and questioned what has been going on with all these various time changes in the last 50 years or so..

You offer some suggestions and answers to my wondering mind.

Id suspect that you may be a Detective Investigator  or something similar in your profession..

Have I seen your Avatar on a TV series at one time...

Many thanks for your explanations and observations and research.
