Oregon gold miners in BLM dispute call on armed supporters to stand down

GRANTS PASS -- A man who owns a gold-mining claim on federal land in southwestern Oregon asked for help defending it after U.S. authorities ordered him to stop work, but he is now telling his armed supporters to back off.

Rick Barclay said Thursday that he hoped to prevent his fight with federal regulators from turning into the kind of high-profile standoff at a Nevada ranch last year.

He initially called in a local chapter of constitutional activists known as the Oath Keepers because he thought the U.S. Bureau of Land Management would seize the equipment on his mining claim outside Grants Pass. The agency had served an order to stop work at the mine after finding it lacked the necessary paperwork.

Armed activists started showing up Monday at the mine and a rural property about 20 miles away, Oath Keepers spokeswoman Mary Emerick said. She said the group was still recruiting people to help provide security for the mine but would not say how many activists were there.

Oath Keepers of Josephine County have received documented evidence from within the BLM regarding destruction of mine records as well as mine property. After continued stonewalling by the BLM as well as these recent revelations, the FBI has been notified of this agency's unlawful actions.

BLM Employee Emails, Destroying Records, Lies, Withholding FOIAs

Yes, just another day at the office for BLM!  Destroying records, lying and withholding public information is all in a days work for BLM.

Today, Oath Keepers of Josephine County released our documentation regarding the BLM stonewalling of our FOIA requests and the destruction of public records.

PDF of evidence - Emails, affidavits, etc.

An email from a BLM archaeologist (from the Medford District office,) states his suspicion that records have been destroyed. We've always considered him one of the very few 'good guys' who work for BLM. He is passionate about his job and was willing to share information and research.

An additional email, from NARA (National Archives & Records Administration) states that they have very little records from BLM and what they have procured had been poorly managed. The email correspondence was in response to Sugar Pine Archivist, Kerby Jackson's request for records from NARA, relating to the Sugar Pine, in 2013.

In addition, affidavits have surfaced from another miner, regarding his own difficulty in gaining access to records for his mine.

Tina Siebert, Land Law Examiner at the BLM State Office in Portland, declared to the mine owner that the records for his claim had been destroyed in the 1980s, and was given nothing.

Returning later to the same office, the miner was given a small amount of records for his claim by a clerk, without comment or problem.

Tina Seibert is also the BLM employee who gave the Sugar Pine documentation to a third party without any questions, whilst we're still waiting for our FOIAs to be answered, three months later.

A second affidavit by the same miner documents his request for the FBI to investigate the destruction of the public records, which was met with contempt and disinterest.

It would seem that some BLM employees do their jobs, and others have a clear agenda to conceal public information. Apparently, they also lie about documents having been destroyed in order to avoid handing them over, since we know at least some paperwork remained.

BLM, this isn't getting any better for you guys, is it?

Right now, you look like the most deceitful, spiteful, malicious agency this country has ever known.

And we haven't even started yet.

We need hundreds of volunteers to help secure the mine, and to work in support of the security operation.

You do NOT have to be an Oath Keeper member everyone is welcome.

We need all people who are willing to stand up for the Constitution. We have had non-members such as Three Percenters volunteers and others from the beginning.

If you want to help we will put you to work.

We WILL reimburse you for your gas money to get here as long as we receive enough donations to cover that. So far, we have been able to reimburse volunteers for gas and other travel expenses and as long as enough donations come in we will continue to do so.

NOTE: If you cannot make it in person to help, at least donate to help pay for the travel expenses of those who can make it.

You can donate here:

That link takes you directly to the Josephine County Oath Keepers PayPal account, and all money donated is used exclusively to support this mission of protecting the mine. Priority is given to reimbursing out of state teams who travel long distances, but anyone who shows up will get gas money reimbursed as long as we have sufficient donations.

Why do we need help?

It is critical that we protect the mine, and the cabin and equipment at the mine, because of the well documented history of BLM burning down cabins and confiscating property at whim, without due process.

We have spoken to multiple miners and even retired BLM officers who have relayed past examples of BLM setting fire to cabins, including occupied cabins (with residents having to scramble out of a burning cabin to avoid being killed).

The miners do not trust the BLM for good reason and they fear that once there are not enough security volunteers, BLM will drop the hammer on them, burning their cabinS and stealing their equipment, which is common (which is then held for years, while the miners try to get it back – that is BLM's standard M.O.).

That is why they asked for help in the first place, and that need has not gone away.

It is critical that we support and protect patriotic Americans who are standing up for themselves and their rights. The miners are now making a brave stand against the pattern of BLM abuse that they have suffered for years.

We need to stand with them, and you need to stand with them.

Please volunteer to help them.

If you show up, we will put you to work. If you are not young and fit enough to pull security at the mine, no sweat.

There is plenty of work to go around in the staging area/base camp.
In particular, we need:

HAM radio operators, medical personnel, tactical teams, do it yourself guys, logistics, IT people, patrol and security crews.

We run teams around the clock so we need hundreds of volunteers.

It's time to step up and serve your beliefs.

You will learn skills as well that you can take back to your own community.

Oath Keepers To Stand Down From Sugar Pine Mine

by Shorty Dawkins

After an administrative law judge put on hold any plans by a federal agency to enforce an order to stop mining, Oath Keepers of Josephine County will stand down from the Sugar Pine mine.

According to Mary Emerick, Information Officer for the Josephine County chapter of Oath Keepers, in a statement made on Thursday, the guards are leaving the Sugar Pine Mine outside Galice in Southern Oregon, where they have been for five weeks. But they will maintain a staging area north of Grants Pass.

The miners will have their day in court, which was the whole purpose of the Oath Keeper Security Operation.

Mission accomplished!

Well done, Josephine County Oath Keepers, and everyone who stood for the miners Rights.

You stand tall in our eyes.

Congratulations!
