I haven't seen too much on here about researching your genealogy.

It's pretty much a hobby and I spend a lot of time on it. I've been tracing my ancestor's since around 2000. I use mostly Ancestry.com and some LDS.

I recently trace the Fountain line back to 1020 • Fontaines, Picardie, Normandy, France

And even found some references to an ancestor that fought in the first crusades.

Any others here into genealogy?

I am amazed you were able to go back as far as you did.  I was only able to go back to the 1600's when I did mine a while back.

Some of your fore fathers were still young men when they passed.  Probably some tough times back then.
The only people in the world, it seems, who believe in conspiracy theory, are those of us that have studied it.    Pat Shannon

I have thought about it, but it takes time and money.  :-\

I'm willing to get you started, if you choose. I can make several trees and research from there, but I need a starting point.

The Seeker

Very interesting, Sarge; I have tried to trace mine back on my dad's side but kinda run into a stumbling block; I have a cousin that is really into it, and claims that Pat Garrett of Billy the Kid fame was one of my grandfathers;

I got interested in it initially when I discovered that one of my high school teachers was the grandson of the infamous John Wesley Hardin from the old west;he actually had his six shooters and a certificate of authenticity for them...

I've done some research.  I kind of got away from it because Ancestry.Com is just not in my budget.  A lot of mine was already recorded by my Aunt Laura.  She lived in Ogden, UT and was still active in LDS.  I think part of me balks at paying LDS, which owns Ancestry and other sites, to research things that really should be public records.

Shasta I agree about a lot of public records should be free. But I bit the bullit and paid the fee. But I don't have anything else to spend my retirement money on so there you go. But it ain't just LDS. A most of my ancestors are Irish, the Irish government sites asks a heavy told on info. But it is what it is.

I find it like a mystery novel, search for info.

Thanks, I may ask your help in the future, if I decide to really do it. :)

"A fellow potato eater!" as Saul Goodman would say.  That would explain why I had problems getting very far with that.  My great grandfather was born in Canada after his parents left Ireland.  I haven't had much luck with getting farther back than that.  My daughter wanted to take me to Ireland this year.  I told I'd rather take the grandkids to Disneyland  again.  We settled on Disney World.  I can take them to the Space Coast while we're down there.  Maybe jog some of my memories loose.
