Good idea or no.

Looks very good, biggsy; Mt Buller looks cold, tho; I don't do snow 8) if at all possible... the construction technique used should be very strong according to the specs and literature I just read on their site...
how big a structure are you talking about building? Are you going to use a concrete floor slab, and what type of roof structure?

I was going to get a basement put in if I could so the grandkids could play.
I need three bedrooms only because my son who has his own business wants to get someone in to do his job for two days a week and spend four days a week up with me and bring the family as well. He has snow boarded in Canada, is very good.
Don't like the heat honey, cant stand it.
I think the roof can be made with same product. I'm getting the director of the company to ring me back on this.
No worries about fires or harsh high winds.
And I'm going to get me a pair of NVGs. Hot spot up there,
The door will always be open for you Seeker. :)
You can look through my NVGs. ;D

The company just got back to me.
The roof is not made from the same material, colorbond would probably be the go there I think.

I went thru their website and read all the specs and documentation; it should be a very strong plus well insulated structure; you should be in good shape, basically storm proof, and one would think very economical to heat and cool...
any projections as to cost per square foot?

I asked him on the phone yesterday if they had any plans with costs. He said I should go to a draughtsman and get them to make up some drawings or specs based on my plan I want and then fax it to them.
I thought that was a bit weird but then I am not tech minded and didn't know to ask him that question.
There are a couple of draughts people up here, so I might pop along and ask them what they can do.
Thanks honey. xo
Oh the numbnut has put my reply inside your quote, sorry again.
It is 2.26 am and the feline woke me up to let him outside. ::)

having to have a spec'd floorplan is not unusual; but I would talk to several architects before i committed to one cold turkey...

$15,000 for a Telsa wall, are they kidding me.
I have solar panels on my roof without a battery. Cheaper to get solar panels again But with a battery.

I know nothing.......nothing, zip, zilch, nada about wind turbines honey.
Well they are cheap, but I think I saw something on tv about dangers with them. ;)

Don't believe everything you see on TV, biggsy; I will detail out several different methods you can use to generate a lot of cheap 12V power for you to use and store :P

I think you have the brains and know how to survive most things. Maybe a CB wireless to find out what's going on.
But that's why I'm heading up, plus my intuition has been telling me to go there for 11 years now.
Kudos honey. xo
You can use a wind turbine, a Coriolis turbine, or a conventional windmill to generate electricity; if you use an old style alternator from any 18 wheeler setup, they are usually rated at 100 amps output and have a separate regulator; the regulator's purpose is to reduce the voltage across the field coil, which reduces the output voltage to 12 volts; bypass the regulator and apply 12 volts to the coil and the alternator produces 120 volts AC at the full rated capacity of the alternator..
120V x 100A = 12,000 watts of usable electricity
With enough steady breeze coupled with solar panels, a good bank of batteries, and a decent inverter, you can power your entire household

WHY don't you detail that on Seekers prep? :P
Also few people know that you can buy lightbulbs that are the same size as regular light bulbs but run on 12 volts no conversion needed
they are used on ships and RVs :P
I am sure there is an LED version by now too that runs on 12 volts
I switched ALL my light bulbs to LED the 60 watt equivalent cost 2.99 a pair at lowes They give light that is the same as 100 watts regular and its a soft light easy on the eyes
LED - A19 - 9 Watt - 60W Incandescent Equal
http://images.lowes.com/product/converted/822985/822985511759_04767592.jpg
I literally dropped approx 100.00 a MONTH on powerbill AND as they put out NO HEAT saves on AC too
A reg 100 watt bulb creates about the heat of one person
We need a Lowes affiliate (maybe the wallmart one will work :D) and make an article on saving energy with led They also last a very long time
is already a work in progress 8) both for the prep and for the affiliate; I gave biggsy the thumbnail sketch

Had a neighbour who put in a small wind turbine. Her biggest problem was it created too much energy. Kept blowing out her regulators and boiling battery bank dry. She couldn't use enough.
Pretty sure she has switched to solar. She is completely off the grid.
Well I know you guys will probably turn your eyes upward and smirk.
But, as you know I am a great believer in spirit. I spoke to a New Zealand medium just a minute ago; no cards with her.
She has brilliant ratings and I could see why.
She said she saw boxes being packed in September, that's spring for us down here, and I'm going the right way, upwards and that it seems I have been getting little intuitive nudges from above.
My grandmother came in and said she was so proud of me for being self reliant for so long. I dearly, dearly loved her.
So thermacell, panels and battery I'm thinking because it's only me.
But I have to have one of those water tanks I think. I know what dangerous stuff grows in that so I'll be getting something to fix it up. Smoochies to all.
Because if a child drinks from that they could die, have to sort that out. xxxooo

An easy enough problem to remedy, Mic; if she was over-producing and couldn't use enough, the alternator needed to be down-sized, and it sounds like the regulator system being used needed to be upgraded to a heavier unit; the regulator also serves to control the amount of juice produced, opening the circuit and stopping the flow of current when the system is fully charged.

Whatever works for you, Biggsy; it is you that has to make your own choices and decisions; water storage shouldn't be an issue with the right type of storage tank; stagnant water with bacteria is what causes problems, so an easy enough issue to deal with.

Unlike yesterday when a male real estate agent came to my place and was telling me what should happen; I got a young female real estate agent today who was a treasure and now my place is up for sale and will be advertised next week.
