Title: [2014] Happy New Year Pegasus!
Post by: Somamech on January 05, 2014, 05:51:56 PM
Wishing you all the best for 2014 and Beyond.  ;D ;)

Realising a Goal and The Rising of The Mystic Yeti

I started this year with a bang doing something I have never done before which is Hiking Mountain's in Ozzie Land over the Summer Work Break.

What made the hike amazing apart from my own personal experience was the fact that I was with four workmate's, one of which who has attempted Everest, and the other two being my wife along with 2013 designer of the year here in Oz.  The latter two are not fit in anyway shape or form apart from being slim.

I have now found out they are both Very Strong Willed when they are bluffed into something they thought they could never achieve even though they were slightly kicking and screaming at times :D

I also learnt a lot of Lesson's on this adventure into Group Dynamic's.  The Everest Guy obviously is good at this and was pushing along with pace which at time's upset wifey and other guy.  The slow pace upset me as I wanted to push along with Everest guy but I had to make sure wifey was ok.  This created an interesting dynamic for a couple of reasons. As after a couple of hour's on the hike i realised it was all for the better as we needed a person to push ahead to keep the carrot dangling, I played with chain link with the other's trying to keep both party's in touch with other in some form.  The role's did juggle around a bit but that is basically how it panned out for the most part till my wife's leg's and decending prowess didn't see eye to eye.  Then I had to really play guardian for her for a mammoth decent over a trail which has been burnt out by bushfire's along with flood's.. the trail was not friendly even for the best of people.

I dont have any pic's of the Adventure as of yet due to my poor form in underestimating how long it would take to upload my previous pics to my pc before the trip started so I could format my sd card, but I do have my GPS Watch Data !  (funny thing is Mr Everest was talking to other hikers and they thought it was pretty hard to do what we did... YET two people with no fitness whatsoever did it! LOL)

Mind really is over Matter  (it may hurt though) :D

Thanks mate!  You should get up that area over summer as the wildflowers are amazing and are a Very pretty sight.. but heck the fire's that have been through the area are very telling to the point one not need carbon dating LOL

But bloody hell! I had to look up Doogahli :O

PS I saw a couple of Lyrebirds during waking hour's (a first) and some other critters making a racket in the nightime, that which I don't know what they were.  Me and Mr Everest got the headlamps onto them and all I can say is the eye spacing was about koala length between eye's, I would like to know more about that one myself to understand the park more!  The eye refletions were not of wrabbit's or foxe's thats for sure!

Happy New year Soma!

Have fun with the hiking!  When I lived in Seattle I had some of the best mountain trails in my backyard with the Cascades of British Colombia, Washington state, and Oregon.  Once to twice a month every month I hit the trails to bag peaks or just get some exercise on a ridgeline.  I'm not a very religious man(organized religion, I am spiritual), but I've never felt so close to God and the beauty of life when up in those mountains.

Breath deep and take it all in.   Cheers - Toad

LOL... All the very best for 2014 mate and the coming years.   :)

Google should refer to these views as "Helicopter Images" rather than "Satellite Images".

So next time one thinks they are viewing a Sat Image... think again.

The Images are more than likely from a helicopter/s...   8)

Happy New Year to you Amy!

2014 the Year of Dream it, Make it and Do it!!  I figure every year is filled with doom and getting some pleasure is usually revolved around some form of more doom.  A simple hike where one pushe's themselves beyone limit's doe's wonder's to blow those cobwebs outta the UFO :D

You too have a '14 worth recalling WarToad!  ;D

As someone who has not had a mountain bike for a few years now which sucks... I must say that since I've been releagted to enjoying video's of all those name's you mention that I've watched so many video's of people enjoying the BC area that one day I hope to visit...such a cool area with commited people bringing the mountain to the peeps !

All us noobs compared to Mr Everest are so amped up on this hiking now that today he said he got an email from his flight point's and that we should do Cradle Mountain in Tasmania as he know's we have sat around for a few years *talking about it*.  So another trip penciled in!

Best Toady!

And hey I hope we can get some more tinkerer's and poker's here this year to support you guy's!   8)

You know what that make's quite a bit of sense!

I trust what you say but I am also looking at it from uber skeptick angle and to be honest it makes a lot of sense from uber skeptoid angle.  My dad's farm has always had crap rez in GE, the alp's I just hiked in have crap Rez, yet city's with all the Heli Traffic have great Rez.

Sorta off topic Matrix but have seen the 4k HD OLED TV's?  I saw one in Costco over the xmas break and they are nut'z!

O yes i love mountains, but it's flat as a pancake around here ::)

My next bit of hiking will be Scafell Pike (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scafell_Pike), the most dangerous mountain in England 8)
Did Ben Nevis & Snowdon already :P

Love those mountains in Oz, will have to fly down & visit you guys sometime ;D

...Throw another wombat on the barbie for me, willya :D

ETA: From Wiki;

QuoteThe ascent of the Pike is most often attempted from Wasdale Head. This is at the north end of Wastwater to the west of the Pike, and is at about 80 metres above sea level. There is a famous climber's hotel here, the Wasdale Head Inn, made popular in the Victorian period by Owen Glynne Jones and others. On summer weekends, crowds of people can be found attempting this steep but straightforward walk. An alternative ascent from Wasdale approaches up a hanging valley whose head is at Mickledore, which is itself ascended, before following the path from Sca Fell to the Pike.

A view of the classic corridor route taken from Sty Head Stretcher boxA more taxing, but scenically far superior, approach begins at Seathwaite Farm at the end of Borrowdale, proceeding via Styhead Tarn, then taking the Corridor Route (formerly known as the Guides Route), a delightful walk along the western flank of the Sca Fell massif with intimate views of the fell, before joining the route from Wasdale near the summit. The return journey can then be made along a high ridge, taking in any or all of the neighbouring summits of Broad Crag, Ill Crag, Great End, Allen Crags and Glaramara. An alternative route from Borrowdale, longer but perhaps less taxing than that via the Corridor Route, runs from Seathwaite via Grains Gill and the high pass of Esk Hause.

The second route (or third?) is also called the 'pyg track', probably the one i will take, it depends a lot on the weather on the day ::)

ETA again; These 3 mountains are in the national 3 Peaks challenge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Three_Peaks_Challenge) held every year in the U.K.

You have to climb all 3 in less than 24 hours... :P :o 8)
I would like to try it before i get too old, but you need at least 2 drivers & a cook if you want to finish in time.... :-\

PWM mate that 3 Peaks Challenge is right up my alley !

Dang wish I was in the UK to try it out with you!  With our current crew at work we would try it and have a wife or two that would do the drive support crew :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Three_Peaks_Challenge

Farking tough 24 hour challenge!

If you ever come down under for any adeventure let me know mate as our little group of the most unlikley people are picking up some speed into folk's enjoying life!

This is our next destination on Australia day in a couple of weeks time:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eorvYw1IKbM

It hopefully wont be as tough as the GPS hike I posted.. but the wildlife should be awesome mate!

And no we are not doing the whole multi day hike as Mr Everest is bringing his family!  which makes me happy as I know dang well how focused such people can be in pursuit of happiness :D

But in saying all that if you do come down give me some forewarning and I can orgainise a hike !  :)

Hey Som,
I just saw the post about you considering a Skoda Yeti?
Yes in my opinion that would be a great choice. Remember it's really a VW under its Skin.
Just my opinion of course. :)
