That's how they do it, they never present themselves as important, only as someone that is just pointing to something important, but the way they present it makes it look like if it wasn't for them nobody would know about it.

The best way of being "aware" is to learn how to do it, and you don't do that just by following what other people say. If I wanted to spread "awareness" (I'm not, as I think that implies other people are just idiots) I would start by teaching people how to get information from more than one source and then how to get to the original sources and, by looking at the differences between the original sources and the other sources to make their decisions.
