Or are you talking about a different thread? If you are, how should we know which one you are talking about?
I see that you are really talking about a different thread, it would have been nice to know about that other thread. A simple link would be enough. :)

Okay my bad  It seems its not clear to everyone yet that I do TWO threads  One locked information thread and one parallel discussion thread

So from now on I will add the link to the library thread at the beginning of the opening post of the discussion thread

I know NOTHING about what you guys are talking about here with the Clemintine project but I did catch a reference to it on another thread where someone said that it was a NAVY project.
Can anyone confirm that?

Sure I can confirm that but wouldn't it be better to actual read that magnificent thread Zorgon put together?

Might distract people from all the drama around here lately :P

O wow those are amazingly clear pics :o

If i can find the time, i would like to download & study them.
I managed to find quite a few in the Apollo 17 pics i got from NAStA

'data loss' my foot, since the pics are streamed via serial interface, a 'data loss' would leave a thin black stripe through the pic (vertical or horizontal depending on how it was scanned) and not a bloody great 'microsoft paint' square blob :P

This is going to be fun!

I will have to give my PC an enema first, to make room for those TIFF's.
These 'tiffs' i like ::) :P

Great pics, Zorgon, but does anyone think of this when they see those images?

Hey, that looks just like areas on Mars!

By the way, here's an enlargement of that pic from A17;

What a great fish story!

Are we the only ones who think that this statement seems rather odd in relation to the 'thruster' stories previously put-forth?
Now that I know what we're talking about, I can answer (sorry for the confusion ;D).

To me, it looks like two different things: first, the thruster problem, that put Clementine into a spin (either 80 or 81 revolutions per minute) and that made the 1620 Geographos rendez-vous impossible, so they sent it into a solar orbit, and for that they used the Moon's gravity to make it enter that new orbit.

While Clementine was in a spin they used it to make further tests, by sending it through the Van Allen belt to test the electronics in that harsher environment, and during those last orbits around Earth it was gathering technical data about the instruments and electronics on board, not taking photos of the Earth.

Then they send it closer to the Moon to have it change the orbit into a solar orbit, where it probably still is.

At least that's how I read it, but I have been known to make mistakes and bad interpretations from time to time. :)

.bmp format is not forum friendly  Perhaps you can change it to .png?

Oops sorry! :-[

I'm too late to modify the post, can you delete it for me?

This is a closeup of something above the 'horizon' that has blatantly been fiddled with, but they missed this one tiny area of detail...

ETA going to download those Clementine pics tomorrow, see what i can find.....
Where's our photo guru Deuem?  :D

On the Topic thread, it says:

QuoteThe following image is the actual data set that Clementine took

and then it shows these images.

Those images are not the actual data set that Clementine took, as the UV/Vis camera was only a 384 x 288 camera and the photos were all monochromatic.

To make an image like the one above it takes some dozens of photos from several wavelengths, and that's the type of work that's done with ISIS.

When they talk about 1.8 millions of photos they are talking about the 384 x 288 photos, not those large mosaics.
