The old people dont want anybody rocking the boat because they are finally retired and dont want social security messed with.

Better not screw with social security.  I've been paying in nearly 30 years now, my statement shows a nice chunk of monthly money when I do retire.  I'm not worried about it though.  It's a third rail issue.  No one will touch it.  If it does go under it means the nation has gone under and I'll have bigger issues than retirement to worry about.  Which is why I stockpile ammo.
