I am neither trusting nor naive about them but that does not mean missing their value as a model.  Many of them probably think nothing compassionate about us.

We learned from Nazis and we learned from Communists.  If Aliens passed thru an advanced tech stage without committing suicide collectively, we need to respect that.  How did they succeed?

Agreed. We are far from ready for that to take place as a civilization,
Civilisation?  Don't make me chuckle.

Egypt was a civilisation.  This is a joke!

i think of myself as utterly clear and articulate......but find that judgement must be validated by others (!)

I would love to hear or know about any sense of religion or spirituality or compassion firmly held by ET's.  Otherwise, the universe looks very cold and nasty.  My default idea is that they might value life somewhat mystically ( Greer's flower pickers) and that the well being of their group would be their only practical moral value. Kinda Spock-like.  Kinda Nordic-like, too.
