Are We Witnessing A Huge Step In Human Evolution?

Facebook. Donald Trump. Online Porn. Wikileaks. Kids with their faces glued to their phones.  Politicians blatantly lying and annoying the public thereby. CCTV cameras everywhere.

What the heck is going on?  Maybe.....the next critical step in human evolution.

We read repeated accounts about Aliens being telepathic - more than that, it should be glaringly obvious that Aliens cooperate at some deep level - as they are united in their discretion not to trigger Disclosure nakedly and undeniably - such as The Day The Earth Stood Still (ain't happenin')

Whether it is Trump's tactlessness or idiots exposing Their Every Momentary Feeling on Facebook/Twitter - there is a trend here of exposing Whatever Happens To Be In Our Heads, Right Now (hence, the online porn too).

Put it all together and maybe - perhaps with some electronic augmentation- we are witnessing the emergence of the next BIG step in human evolution:  directly sharing our minds, telepathy.

The world will be a much better place once we get adjusted.  It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Are you cracked? Have you ever had a voice in your head not your own?

Trust me, shared consciousness is not what we need.

Some filtering will co-evolve along with whatever augmented abilities emerge - and if you look at what's currently going on with 'fake news' and 'alternative facts', it's obvious we have to figure out how to manage the flow of info.

I notice that Trump's lack of verbal inhibition seems contagious.  Democrats and EU types are saying screwy stuff they shouldn't.

I have no experience with hallucinations but once had a friend with an LSD history.  Every so often, walls would 'move' for him or rainbow snow fall from the sky.  Normal otherwise,  he learned to ignore it as an annoyance.

I understand Israelis are getting closer to a sort of polygraph for the brain. Could revolutionize criminal interviews.

Ready or not, this stuff is gonna happen.

In my view, such a thing is intellectual rape. No one should know our innermost thoughts unless we want them to.

This line was never meant to be crossed. It has a horrid potential for abuse.

Agreed. We are far from ready for that to take place as a civilization,  The simple fact of the matter is that the electronic revolution has given too much exposure of and access to the common idiot, and the past 50 years of Dr. Spock and his totally idiotic ideas of how we were raising children wrong and his way was better has produced what you see now, a nation of mostly useless eaters.

The boomers are the last generation to have strong morals, ethics, pride in what they do, and to have been trained in the use of intelligent thought and judgement.

Beam me up, Scotty, there is no intelligent life down here...

A scattering of ethical post boomers does exist.  My niece is one.  But too many people have been raised in an atmosphere of instant gratification.

Irene, I share your distaste for mind invasion.  I think we have some things in common.

Telepathy, properly used and respected, is a valuable tool.  As is empathy.

This topic relates to a philosophical worry of mine - that led me away from my True Love, Libertarianism.

How do you reconcile potentially destructive technology with individual freedom?  Suppose anyone with a good lab could make an atom bomb? Or a unstoppable virus?  Or crash a plane?  I don't see a way out that leaves our accepted freedoms unscathed - and I really don't like it.

A universal sharing of thoughts may be the only means of survival, in some form.  Ready or not, this is a critical issue in our world.

Part of the thing that is still keeping most people sane is the belief that they "fit in" and are constructive members of society. When you are privy to people's most private thoughts, even your own loved ones, you will be horrified to discover even what loved ones think about you at times. People simply could not handle this and I think it would literally drive a lot of people to a level of insanity this planet has never seen the likes of.

Absolutely. The only thing that is still truly private is the human mind, at least private from other humans. It would drive people insane if their minds weren't their own. It would be incredibly stressful to control your thoughts for years on end in order to survive.

"What you don't know won't hurt you." Discretion is incredibly important and the last bastion of it is the individual mind.

If you're not convinced, think about the concept of Thought Crime. I'd be imprisoned for life for what I think about bad drivers and people who abuse animals.

Shared consciousness? Terrible idea.

You seem to be missing a point - although I may not have made it explicit.   Humans in developed nations are going thru a process of adjustment in which no thoughts are extreme anymore.  Porn, hate, and more become so much blah, blah, blah.  No big deal....

I suppose an answer to my tech vs freedom dilemma might be that, if we can make the jump to a society of guaranteed abundance for everyone, then we end up like Iceland or some other North European nation.  Plenty of restrictions but no lack of anything material.  Interesting that we talk about "Nordic" aliens.

I find it sad that kids today will never have the exposure to chemistry that I had as a youth. Any sort of home lab automatically makes you a terrorist or a meth manufacturer.  I'm interested in life extension and getting anything is difficult.

Two things -

I don't believe in Utopia. It relies, absolutely, on the goodness of men and, as we know, man is inherently corrupt.

We live in fear because corrupt men are also greedy.

And I say , we cannot go on like this.  Radical change is inevitable - and perhaps technology or evolution gives us a degree of transparency that has never existed before.

If aliens exist, how can we not view them as a model for our future?  Telepathy?  Families and firm societal roles such as the 'Tall Whites'?  They are way ahead of us and have survived the challenges we face - no small achievement.

Tell me why you think these entities are advanced and benevolent.

If they have spaceships and other tech that's way ahead of us, they're advanced.

I see no reason why they would be benevolent, that's not required or relevant.   It would be enough that they are a stable advanced society that hasn't blown themselves up.

You are certainly a trusting soul. You don't mind that they might treat us like dirt. That would be okay as long as they share their tech?

Not required or relevant? I think that is naive.
