A question for everyone...

With all the talk and debate over the mandala enigma, I have another one to add to the stack:

I am used to the major weather topics for this time of year being about tropical depressions, formation of hurricanes, micro-bursts and tornadoes; now, for the first time I am aware of, the weather channel is talking daily about this time of year (July-September) being monsoon season for the desert southwest, in particular Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Nevada...

Has this always been a part of the summer weather patterns and discussions?  Or is this another of those time line glitches that has just now popped in out of the blue?

???

I think I first heard about it two years ago, but I'm not sure.

Well I can say that I have never heard of this before.  Hurricane season....yes but not monsoon for New Mexico/Arizona et al.

The only people in the world, it seems, who believe in conspiracy theory, are those of us that have studied it.    Pat Shannon

The desert southwest, including Colorado, gets a monsoon season every year.  I think the timing is a little off this year, but within normal limits.  I'm a Colorado native.  I remember monsoon season every year.

.. i thought for a minute there we were on rewind..  :o   ::)

Going to throw this out there as another item that seems different...

For the last month now, The Weather Channel has been talking about it being Monsoon season in the desert southwest, Jim Cantore going on and on about it today with the super high dew points in Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Vegas today, numerous flash flood warnings out for most of that area including Clarke county Nevada(Vegas)...

I know that most of the US has been receiving a lot more rain this year than usual, and every day there are reports of flooding somewhere in the country; just seems odd to me that I do not remember the "monsoon season" for the desert...

But then again, back in 2002, I did find, in a storage lot outside Quartzsite, an Airstream Land Yacht camper, mounted on pontoons...

Monsoon Season in the Desert Southwest. ... Every July and August, the climate changes dramatically from the dry arid climate of May and June to one of humidity and seasonal rains. This weather change is important to consider when planning a Grand Canyon trip to Arizona or an active vacation in the other desert States.

That conversation is what lead to this thread, otter; most of the people I have queried have never heard of the southwest having a monsoon season , so I put it out there for more debate  8)

I want to know what a "dessert monsoon" is.  Does that mean it's raining desserts?  I could go for some lemon meringue pie.

It is a shift in Language due to a lot of Earth being online, and how we all start to interchange term's for the same event.

For example:

When I am in Taiwan these event's are called a Typhoon, but in Australia, they are called Cyclones.  People in Taiwan know the English word Typhoon like they know the term naturally in Mandarin, Hakka or any other Native Language, but they won't be familiar with the term Cyclone.

For a long time I thought I thought the effect was localised to Aussie's as they do change their accent to adapt to the Home Country they live in, but heck these day's sometime's I watch a youtube video and wonder where that person came from when they speak english.  I find it quite cool myself!
