Being Smart Is Now a Privileged Class

There are no words, no expression for how amazing this statement is. We have become a nation of excuses rather than efforts to better ourselves.

Intelligence has now become one of the privileged classes. If you're stupid, you're being discriminated against. You are guilty of "cognitive privilege" if you have better genes or a better education or your parents simply put more effort into teaching you, so you had a better chance in life.

Envy, one of the 7 Deadly Sins, has taken the flag in the United States, and it is killing us.

UPDATE: Not Being Stupid Is 'Cognitive Privilege' Now, Which Is Just Like White Privilege

QuoteThe University of Iowa's student newspaper has announced the discovery of a special privilege which intelligent people acquire as an accident of birth. This new privilege — called "cognitive privilege" — functions in essentially the same way as white privilege.

The Daily Iowan revealed the discovery of this new privilege earlier this week.

Garden-variety white privilege "is an important topic that deserves a public discussion," the op-ed on "cognitive privilege" explains, but it is also "prudent to at least mention the wider concept contained therein: that of privilege itself."

Privilege in general is "the receipt of certain benefits wholly through accident of birth and it is "undeniable that privilege itself is a reality," the student newspaper explains.

As with skin color and much else, Daily Iowan author Dan Williams argues, people have no control over how smart they are. Life is a huge cosmic lottery full of winners and losers.

Cognitive privilege is one of "many kinds of privilege besides white privilege."

Now if that isn't a racist manifesto, then cows fly upside down and poop straight up  :o

being white is not a privilege or a choice; having a low or high IQ is not a privilege or choice...

what is a choice is whether you apply yourself and try to learn; unfortunately, for the last 40 years the kids have been taught that they don't have to try, don't have to work hard, that it is ok to be mediocre or a dumdass, that they will be provided for...

My daughter wasn't able to finish high school due to illness.  The school district wasn't interested in working with us.  When she was functional again,  she started working to help support the two of us.  She got her GED, and became a CNA.   17 years ago, I worked extra to make enough monet to put us both through pharmacy technician training.  She is currently 2/3 through her Bachelors from CSU in Health Information Management.  Her kids are being raised to meet similar aspirations.   My stepdaughter has a BA in Art History.   She got fired from her museum curator job, and quit her job at Lowe's,  because it wasn't fun anymore.  I went back to work when my daughter was 3 months old, and put myself through an Associate Degree to boot.  Her mother never worked.

According to the definition used, it is, as he defines it as something that gives an advantage to someone independent of that person's choices or actions. If being white gives an advantage over other (non-white) people then being white is a privilege.

What I find interesting is that they do not apply that idea of privilege to other things, like the privilege of being born rich, or being born male.

Also, they do not talk further of the unprivileged and the related feelings, probably because if they think that privilege may cause a sense of guilt, what would be the corresponding sense from the unprivileged? Innocence? Would someone that feels innocent from any unfair advantage have an advantage because of that? If they do, then they are privileged and may feel guilty about it, and we can keep on this for ever. :)

PS: don't base your opinion on that article alone, as it looks like it was written by someone that decided to use their privilege of having a platform from where they can publish their opinion as if it's better than someone else's opinion, in this case the opinion of Dan Williams, the author of the Daily Iowan's article, that was written in a way that is different from what Eric Owens (the author of the Daily Caller's article) implies, Eric Owens is not reporting on something he found, he is twisting Dan Williams' words.

Generally.........it would be the known-to-be less intelligent of the earthling species that would propose this seemingly piece of open ignorance. There is much open science and study that details the several reasons for variations in IQ around the world, including studied differences in brain sizes and race.

If one were to take this OP subject and extend it to all areas of achievement, then most everything recognized as good becomes "privileged" and thus bastardized thought! Such thinking by "underachievers" is paramount to "harmonious collusion" to dumb down the human race. And we have been actually doing that openly to the kids in our schools (USA) for many years.

The really sad thing about this is..........the underachievers are not allowed/taught to understand that it is the smart/achievers of any class group that have the intelligence where-with-all to significantly raise the achiever bar of accomplishment for all at every level!!

If we remove the "privilege" part, what he says is true, nobody is responsible for being intelligent or not.

The problem is that intelligence is not the only thing that allows people to be successful, and pretending that it is makes it look like some people are predestined to being successful and other people to be failures, so we go back to the "it's not my fault" syndrome.
