Dimensional Trolls effecting our current timeline?

I posted this article here in GENERAL because I need to move some topics around and change viewer access to certain boards...

O used the above title so it would be in the right topic line. Please ignore the political aspect of this article and focus on the dimensional aspect

A black man went undercover online as a white supremacist. This is what he learned.

© Courtesy of Theo Wilson Theo Wilson created a fake online persona so he could better understand white supremacist trolls. He spent months inside the echo chamber learning about why racism flourishes online.

QuoteAs soon as Theo Wilson started making YouTube videos about culture and race, trolls using racial slurs started flocking to his page.

After engaging in endless sparring matches in the comments section, Wilson began to notice something curious: His trolls seemed to speak a language unto themselves, one replete with the same twisted facts and false history. It was as if they had all passed through some "dimensional doorway," arriving from an alternative universe where history, politics and commonly accepted facts had been turned inside out.

There was the idea that slavery was a form of charity that benefited enslaved Africans; that freed blacks owned more slaves than whites before the Civil War; that people of color make up the majority of those receiving aid from America's safety-net programs; and that investor and philanthropist George Soros is funding protest movements like Black Lives Matter.

Curious about where his trolls were getting their revisionist history lessons, Wilson, 36, — an award-winning poet and actor from Denver — decided to go undercover in their world. In 2015, he started by creating a ghost profile named "Lucious25," a digital white supremacist who appeared to be an indigenous member of the alt-right's online echo chamber, he said.

His avatar was John Carter, the Confederate hero of Edgar Rice Burroughs's science fiction series about death-defying adventures on Mars.

Within a few weeks Wilson's alternate identity was questioning President Barack Obama's birthplace, railing against Black Lives Matter and bemoaning people he called "race-baiters," such as Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. After several months, he was a disaffected fixture on alt-right websites that draw white supremacists — such as Info Wars and American Renaissance — and in the comments section of racist YouTube videos.

"To be honest, it was kind of exhilarating," Wilson told an audience during a recent TEDx talk about his experience. "I would literally spend days clicking through my new racist profile, goofing off at work in Aryan land."

During his eight months as a racist troll, Wilson never revealed his true identity. When it was all over, Wilson said, he came to appreciate the way in which the far-right media bubble disables its participants — offering an endless stream of scapegoats for their problems but no credible solutions.

We spoke with the poet about his experience, whether white supremacists are redeemable and why he believes liberals should listen to the far-right. The interview has been edited for length.

How did it feel to assume the identity of a person who — if real — would presumably hate you and everything you represent?

It was painful at first. I'm still me. This isn't like the blind Dave Chapelle KKK character who didn't know he was black. To get beneath the pain, I had to begin to dissociate from myself as a black person. The pin pricks didn't go away, but it began to feel like a character study. I've acted before, and the muscle I developed learning theater allowed me to do this. Acting teaches you that you can't just act, you have to be, so I would sort of tell myself I was Daniel Day Lewis or Denzel Washington becoming a role.

As you became more familiar with the alt-right online, what shocked you most about their views?

That there are still people who think black people are not fully human and that we are lagging in terms of evolution. The comments I'd read about our facial features being monkey-like and dark skin being proof of primitiveness were shocking. The fact is that there are people who believe that the difference between us is the difference between two species, not a race. I was raised with so many examples of black excellence and nothing about inferiority. Meanwhile, the folks on these forums are still discussing phrenology. Who uses phrenology anymore? We mapped the human genome!

After spending time in the white supremacist universe, do you consider all of them "bad people"?

It's wise to avoid absolutes. "Bad" generally means "irredeemable" and "disposable." Therefore, if I thought everyone in the alt-right were any of these, the experiment would be useless.

You mention that in their forums they're also seeking "answers" to questions. What are they trying to resolve?

In today's America, they're struggling to understand why they'll have less opportunity than their father's generation. They also want answers to basic questions about race in America, such as: What's the point of multiculturalism? Why can only black people say the "N" word? How is racism not over when LeBron James and Oprah have huge bank accounts? How is affirmative action anything other than reverse racism? Why shouldn't I be proud to be white if someone else is proud to be black?

Were you struck by the reality that infiltrating this world would've been nearly impossible for you at almost any other time in American history? You would've been putting your life at risk.

This experiment was completely a product of the digital age. Even when the reverse was done in the book "Black Like Me," there's always that chance you could be discovered, but here that's extremely unlikely unless someone is a hacker. The Internet is sort of what a car is to road rage. The glass and steel create this bubble of perceived safety, which amplifies people's rage, but keeps them from having to deal with the consequences of that rage. There is an honesty that is exposed in the process.

You talk about "breaking out of the digital divide." Technology offers us the chance to connect with new people and ideas, but you don't believe it's a reliable tool for combating racism. Why is that?

James Baldwin accurately diagnosed the white culture's need for shadow projection onto black bodies as being the roots of racism. A smartphone and an iPad won't address this need. All they do is reinforce our wants and desires, so if these desires are immature, we never grow. Racism is a comfy cage, and technology hasn't provided the key for getting out. We need to have courageous, face-to-face conversations with difficult people outside of the security of our laptops.

You talk about racists with something approaching compassion. Does that suggest you're hopeful about our chances of defeating racism?

Just because this experience made me more compassionate doesn't mean I'm more hopeful. My compassion comes from knowing these people are still so vulnerable to social programming. But the social forces that make racism commonplace aren't necessarily going away. Look at what happened in Charlottesville, for example. How did a brand-new generation of white guys get that hateful? They never joined their dad in a lynch mob. They never smelled the burning flesh of a Negro in a town square or lived in Jim Crow America. And yet, they still adopted those hateful attitudes. That doesn't make me hopeful at all.

I'm sorry. This is yet another guy who doesn't own a mirror. He will not discuss the negatives of his own damn community, only point them out in everyone else's.

This remimds me of a guy, who went looking for an easy answer, and found even more complexity and dynamics than he ever imagined.

He looks for a piece of pepperoni, by shoving his entire head into the pizza oven.

He is awestruck by the original onslaught of idiots on youtube, as if he ever thought youtube was a bastion of moral end ethical structure.

He underestimated the number of these new members of the groups he observed, and how they actually try to masquerade as being truly interested in the philosophical aspect of the so called white nationalist movements, while these newbies are just idiots looking for other idiots to congregate with.

He places his hand in the cage, surprised when Harambe does exactly what he feared, bite it off, yet does not succeed in seeing that the problem is immensely larger than he could ever decode with his "acting" and "poetry" skills.

In short, he is a black guy who was raised in a positive environment, and he is one of few black men or women who really get that chance compared to the whole of the race today.

Its like the friend of Wil Smith on Fresh Prince, the Harvard stuffed shirt kid, visiting the hood in an armored limousine with security, and saying, gosh darnit, whats keeping these folks down?

Im with Irene, he needs to buy a mirror, and perhaps a copy of Gulag Archipelago, to truly understand opression and suffering.

Cheers?

I have relatives by marriage who live in the Cherokee Nation area of Oklahoma.  They truly believe in the separation of people by color, even though they may claim any number of black friends, and indeed, have a small amount of black ancestry themselves.  I will be visiting there next weekend, and once again, it will truly be like stepping into a melange of 1950's and current day.  They believe that women should be subservient to men, and meet their needs, that black is less than white, and that the abject poverty of their entire existence is normal.  And if I didn't have a sense of honor,I wouldn't go.  I would instead, raise a glass to a thorn being removed from my paw.  By I have honor.

I see timeline A history and timeline B and maybe even C history being inter-twined into a mishmash of chaotic reasoning;  putting aside the cultural or political aspects of the OP, it does say that different history accounts of "facts" that are radically different from accepted history stands out like a sore thumb

THIS has been my main problem since I returned from Houston

projects and articles I was working on before, when I went to post about them or continue... I found out that they have CHANGED  many times on FB I made posts based on facts the way they were (to me) only to be corrected with the current 'facts'  It got so bad i stopped posting on old topics.

I even had to go back and check some of my old work to make sure it was still the same...

I know many don't believe it and frankly that doesn't  concern me at all.  It is what it is for me.

I am glad to read that other folks are mystified as to why the world is the way it is - and seeking a cause. I think prescription drugs, illegal drugs and smart phones are a big part of the cause.

I see the racism obsession as a scam, a distraction away from blaming the rich Elite. Keep the masses divided and fighting.  The government is constantly looking for excuses and scapegoats to cover their failures. The Russians did it, the Chinese did it, the Neo Nazis did it........ With any luck, Antifa will be augmented by the FBI into a new national enemy in the mix.

Racism accusations make me angry because no one offers the solution - a race blind government that offers decent jobs and housing to everyone that's broke.  If you still encounter prejudice after earning a nice house and job, then hang out with your friends and enjoy life - and avoid haters.  It seems that the more ineffective government is, the more is demanded of it!

I also feel there are multiple overlapping possibility scenarios, although I personally perceive them as maybe being more oriented towards the non physical, such as neural networks in the mind, where tendrils of reason and logic sometimes merge onto the onramp of insanity.

The mind is a complex map with no 90 degree turns, so its an easy drive between connectors, where one can sometimes see the familiarity of a pathway, later realizing they got to their destination on a similar but totally different roadway.

Our differing existences are like folds in the curtain I spoke of in another thread, they are different, but the same, and sometimes they fold over onto one another, and the Buffalo gets to observe the sea anemone in its own habitat, unaware that the sea anemone is saying..holy crap, Im about to become dinner!

Or AI mixed in with all the above?

With all the largest company's in the world working on AI, along with what they own, it's not a far stretch of the mind to liken the ability of news and opinion to be exactly like the stock market and high-frequency trading front running the market before the sheep get fleeced.

I'm not sure if you get much TV time or have netflix but there is an interesting series on there called Travellers which may help you with your idea's. The premise of the show is that people from the future travel back in time using consciousness into other people's bodies in the timeframe where they are trying to effect their future.  Quite a fascinating concept really and I hope I'm on point to your discussion mate.

O btw if anyone wonder's why I can relate these things to The Screen... Well I was just reading how a certain organisation encourages to look and study all views LOL

You and I have seen things we experienced together change radically , just as we both have had long time acquaintances suddenly become strangers...

I have stated many times before that we do travel together in groups as we walk the paths of life, and on a daily basis it becomes more apparent (to me) who is as they should be, and who is different; it is what it is, and mine to deal with

but to read very familiar articles only to see major changes, or totally different accounts has been a major WTF??? The one that really gets me is listening to James Earl Jones, the famous voice of Darth Vader, state that the famous line from the movie  is different from what he originally said, and has him shook up  :o

I don't believe it is flouride in the water; just as the theory of over-lapping timelines really doesn't fly, either, for if that were the case,Z, we should be able to go back to our original one...

I have listened to Delores Cannon speak about her notion that our Earth did indeed succumb to an ELE and that those of us that still have unfinished work are now in this timeline to continue; my question to that is, did the "us" that was already here get sent to take our places in the ELE?

Or has some cosmic kindergardner been playing with the matrix and not been caught by their babysitter yet?

Seeker, your post has disturbed me, but don't sweat it. It has disturbed me because it has reminded me of events in late 2008 when my reality really went askew.

My first thought when I realized it was that an ELE had happened because people got very, very strange. There were a lot of droopy left eyelids and emotionless behavior. Like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" -

QuoteThat not my wife!

They just weren't the same and they still aren't. What's changed is that I've adjusted to the strangeness.

You guys are going all Phillip K. Dick on me.  I've had some strange experiences but nothing on the level you-all  are claiming.
Is this our fate - never getting a clear explanation of what's going on?  Is this a simulation?  Gnosticism without really knowing?

The smartphone thing is simple. There are bands that now now complain that crowds at live concerts are watching them on their phones - rather than the act on stage !  This, together with video games, creates a culture of immediacy and detachment from genuine social interaction.  Recently, a young woman streamed herself committing a brutal murder for the thrill of doing it.  Every selfie shows her smiling broadly, even in prison (with no remorse).
Consider the emergence of people posting criminal evidence of themselves on Facebook !

Are you saying that James Earl Jones says that he didn't say "No, I'm your father!"?

Well there is a Youtube video where Jones shows the script and it says "Luke... "I am your father" Apparently George Lucas has said several times he recalls it as "Luke... "I am your father"

That means both of these fellows came with us :D  and since they are the creator and the voice, I will go with them on this

Quotewe should be able to go back to our original one...

That would be nice  The insanity in this one is scary

IF that is true... then those of us 'saved' to continue a mission likely swapped with a stupider version of us  that got sent to die in the ELE

Problem with that is  WHO is the Controller?

:o
