http://www.seventeen.com/celebrity/news/a32934/the-berenstein-berenstain-bears-conspiracy-theory/

You might remember reading The Berenstein Bears books or watching the cartoon when you were little. The  beloved series of children's books about a family of bears launched in 1962 and continued on to become a TV series in the '80s, a series of computer games, and it even has a movie adaptation in the works right now.

For most of us, the family of bears were a beloved part of our childhood, so you might be shocked to find out that we've been spelling their name wrong the entire time.  We've been referring to the series as The Berenstein Bears throughout this post, which probs seemed totally normal to you if you're familiar with the series. BUT that's not right. The actual correct title of the series is The Berenstain Bears — with an A.

But others have insisted this popular image is fake because photo forensics proves it's photoshopped.

But not everyone thinks this is a huge conspiracy. There are many fans who believe a much simpler explanation for the mass misunderstanding: -stein is a much more common suffix in names than -stain, so people simply remembered the series having the more common spelling by mistake.

Guess we'll never know for sure, but the last one sounds pretty reasonable to us.  How about you? Do you remember the name being Berenstein or Berenstain?

The Berenstain Bears Show is an Australian-American animated comedy television series based on Stan and Jan Berenstain's Berenstain Bears children's book series, produced by Hanna-Barbera and Southern Star Productions.
It aired on the United States from September 14, 1985 until March 7, 1987 on CBS with over 52 11-minute episodes in 26 half-hour shows produced. Each show consisted of two episodes, the first being an adaptation of one of the books, the second being an original story.
The series was nominated in 1987 for a Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Performer in Children's Programming; it was also nominated that year for a Humanitas Prize in the category of Non-Prime Time Children's Animated Show.

Digitizing the Berenstain Bears
Many of our younger fans are familiar with our Television Series on PBS, but did you know the Bears have been on the small screen since 1979?

Here at Berenstain Studios we recently received all of our tape reels, beta-max tapes, DVDs, and VHS tapes of our TV Specials, and TV episodes from our 1985 Television series. These had previously been housed at an outside storage facility. This meant it was time to make some room in the archives!

Our studio archives house all of the original art from the Berenstain Bear books from the beginning as well as many of Stan & Jan's comics from before the Bears. We also keep at least 5 copies of each of our books published, and now it is home to all of the original tape reels. Here's a look at all of the space needed just for books:

While this may not look too exciting, we at Berenstain Studios were looking forward to seeing some of the cartoons  – some of which have not aired on TV in over 30 years!

Guest Post, Myth-busters with
Emily Berenstain

Hi Everyone,

My name's Emily Berenstain, I'm the granddaughter of Stan and Jan Berenstain, and the daughter of Michael Berenstain. I wanted to take a minute to clear up a few things about the books and debunk some myths about our last name.

People have questioned the pronunciation of my last name since I can remember. It's not a name you hear every day.

Many people would ask me, "It's BerenstEIN, like the Bears right?" to which I would respond "No it's actually BerenstAIN, like the Bears". It was never a big deal when people got it wrong, I would just chuckle and correct them, a simple mistake. But then this last summer for some reason the fact that our name was spelled "Berenstain" and not "stein" got brought up again and again and people took to the internet in frenzy!

It was pretty funny at first, seeing how upset people were that they had remembered the Bear Books incorrectly. "It's Berenstain? Not Berenstein? My whole childhood is a lie!" I remember seeing someone's comment on Facebook. Everyone started asking me about it, friends of friends, coworkers, long lost classmates from elementary school. It was getting kind of crazy! The internet presence grew and grew until it was trending on Facebook! Even a few celebrities commented on Twitter about it.

Some people would not accept the fact that they had been pronouncing the name incorrectly for so long. I even saw pictures online where people photo shopped the name to "Berenstein", it was ridiculous! There were many different theories circulating the internet about our name, some believed we changed the spelling on purpose (why on earth would we do that?), and then a few believed in the Mandela effect. According to the Mandela effect, a parallel universe exists aside of ours where the books are indeed spelled "Berenstein". My response to that theory is, who knows maybe there is another universe, who am I to say there isn't? But in this universe, the Bears are and have always been the Berenstain Bears.

Thank you for posting the pic for me one of you  :)

Thank you for the gold Sgt. Rocknroll.

You're welcome Seeker.

Thanks Space Otter for adding to it.

ArMaP... Not sure????  :-\

I hastily posted when I saw it by accident and wanted to share. I haven't been on here in so long and didn't know if others had seen it as it is making the rounds from a guy on FB. According to him it's had over a 1000 shares. It was his VHS movie and the wrapper was spelled one way while the movie inside was spelled anyother way.

Let me go back and re-read some of his comments on the post because one in particular stood out but I quickly scanned past it as like I stated, I wasn't sure if this was already on here and already being discussed.

The comment that stood out to me will sure have ArMap jumping for joy  ;)

And might confuse some others.    :)

Ok, the man, a very young (to me) musician in Austin, Tx said when asked to show pic of the yellow cassette - I can't, it's already been sold.

To which the poster replied it must be fake then.

The OP assured him it wasn't as he originally posted the pic in August 2016. (And I saw the proof).

He said he was contacted after that post and made an offer for purchase.

Sold for $1600.

And I need to correct myself and state that it has been shared 3.7k

The comment that stood out while the discussion of the Mandelo effect was taking place was this one...

"Noooo, the publisher released different versions regionally. The kids in the south and the middle states didn't get a book with Jewish bears.
Midwest and east coast got the "Steins".  Bible Belt got the " Stains".
Johnny bible beater from southern Kentucky would never buy his kids a book with a Jewish name.
Regional publishing."

Sooo....

IDK  :)

That is a lot of very nice TIMELINE B information  :D  And I would expect such a result from a TIMELINE B source and person who has always been in TIMELINE B...

But it doesn't work.  because no amount of evidence from TIMELINE B proving that this is the way it is in TIMELINE B can possibly prove that there wasn't a TIMELINE A

Only those FROM TIMELINE A that have surviving bits of evidence from TIMELINE A count

I DO like this ArMaP a lot better :P He has a sense of humour :D

But the point is that taking evidence from the CURRENT timeline to prove the CURRENT timeline  in no way disproves that the other timeline isn't real and that some of us are from that timeline

Hope that is clear

I do find it interesting that Timeline B people are so adamant about wanting to prove Timeline A people are liars, have false memories, can't spell or are lunatics. What is it about this that makes it so hard to accept that MAYBE just MAYBE it IS possible?

zorgon

I have one bit of research for you Space Otter (or anyone)

the STEIN ending is a common Jewish name ending like SilverSTEIN and GoldSTEIN  yet I have never seen a Jewish name ending is STAIN  (Stein being Stone in German and those names re usually from German Jews)

So lets see if we can find the entomology of THAT name

Yes I DO NOT DOUBT that the author belive her name is correct in THIS timeline  even if it makes no sense :P

You should see me in timeline C.  :P

Maybe because people that think they are from timeline A don't admit that they can be wrong.  :)

If this is a true statement, then it should be easy to verify by contacting the listed publishers on the books and the various distributors; running 2 different sets of the same material, even with minor changes, still adds extra cost, and they should have records to either prove or dis-prove that statement.

I have always lived in what is considered the bible belt; the books that I used to read to my three kids were Berenstein  8)
