Gene editing treats lethal lung diseases before birth.

The CRISPR gene editing tool/method has been apparently used successfully to cure, before birth an animal model test subject that would have had a fatal lung disease and would have died shortly after birth.  "This proof-of-concept study, published today in Science Translational Medicine, showed that in utero editing could be a promising new approach for treating lung diseases before birth."  :o
So it seems we may be able to avoid most all genetically caused/passed diseases if this pans out.  It looks like there isn't anything we couldn't fix at some time during development with this CRISPR gene treatment.  As long as the genetic structure of the trouble is known, it should be fairly strait forward as to how it can be made well.
This could bring us many new and exciting cures. As well as options for a new human body.  With CRISPR gene rearranging maybe we will be able to head to the stars soon, with new bodies made for living aboard space craft and in space conditions.
Hopefully this will pan out as good as it looks now.  This could change humanity nearly overnight.   8)
WAY TO GO, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia!    ;D

We (the common people) don't have the slightest idea of how many thousands of scientists are working to find new ways of diagnosing and treating diseases, or how many are working to try to find how the human body really works, down to basic chemical processes.

In the last couple of months I have had the opportunity of seeing a little of that by being a very small part (I only issue the invoices) of the process of organising congresses for scientists in which they will present and discuss the result of their investigations in areas I didn't even knew existed. :)

Hi WhatTheHey & ArMaP - this program was on UK Radio 4 this morning and was really interesting, the link below will take you to a registration page before you can access the program but it may be worth a listen.

Thanks fansongecho, I pretty much try to stay in the happy zone! lol  Sooooo sometimes I don't think about the more dangerous and even devastating uses some of these discoveries can be used for.  We all hope that scientist working with this CRISPR tool/application have the sense to use it wisely,  but humanity doesn't have a great track record when it come to this issue.  Many times the governments of the world take what they can and use it for weapons development.  Sometimes taking a invention or discovery that surely should be a wonderful benefit to all mankind and perverting it into war waging devise.  Oh well, let us hope that does NOT happen with this technology.  Looks like once again only time will tell.  I find it hard to believe that they would alter a embryo disregarding the life within, assigning it a life as who knows what.  Yet I wouldn't be entirely surprised.  ::)

Hi WTH, I found this - https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-00773-y

I guess that whatever regulations the nations of the world agree to CRISPR technology, it will come down to who will be prepared to create designer babies .. sorry the perfect baby as long as the money is right?

If the elite are prepared to defraud Universities by paying for falsified entry documents via false scholarships for wads of money then it doesn't take a great leap of the imagination to realize that someone with enough cash is going to approach a scientist who knows their DNA manipulation beans for the perfect child/ren.

Risk vs Rewards and the ££Millions is always going to be worth the risk.  ::)

:)    Exactly why I would not be surprised.   Thanks for the links.    Good stuff.   :)
