Good morning everyone  8) Today it is a refreshing 62 degrees here in NW Georgia

Out in the Atlantic we have Hurricane Dorian, Cat ! so far, that managed to miss Puerta Rico but did smack the Virgin Islands on the way by...

caught part of a news clip showing a volcanic eruption, possibly in Italy...

Share any interesting tidbits about weather or local events here for daily gossip  :P

Dorian is projected to reach Cat 4 before making landfall, possibly in an area that extends from Miami all the way up to south Georgia or the Carolinas; they still don't know, still too far out to do more than guess...

It would be just fine if it decides to make a sharp turn to the north and heads towards Greenland  8)

Probably not Seeker, more likely it'll skip through Florida into the Gulf. Then if that happens, I'll be praying it takes a northerly turn into the Florida panhandle and then pay you a visit.  ;D ;)

That would be allright, I'm 300 miles from the ocean  :P I have had them roll thru before, and it won't be near as rough for me as it would be down your way

This morning the chatter is all about Hurricane Dorian and all the preps being made, what should be done, blah, blah, blah, and yet they still aren't sure where it is going to go...

SpaceX lit off and tested one of their Falcon 9 rockets also...

It is sunny and 86 here in my slice of the peach state with 39% humidity...

ArMaP, you really don't have much of a winter where you live in, is it Alameda? Almeda? Anywho, you have that excellent Mediterranean climate year round...

:P
It's Almada, and, although not a Mediterranean climate, we do have a mild climate, being mostly under the influence of the Atlantic ocean and the North of Africa (from time to time we get dust from North Africa dust storms). We are more or less at the same latitude and relative position to the ocean as San Francisco and we have a bridge similar to Golden Gate. :)

In the photo above, Almada is in the foreground, Seixal (a different city) in the background. I live near the blue building (a theatre) to the left.

As for climate, the coldest temperature we had here was 0º C (32º F), the hottest 42º C (107.6º F). In Winter the average low is 8.5º C (47.3º F) and the average high in Summer is 38º C (100.4º F).
We don't get much rain, with an average 121 mm (4.7 inches) of rain in December and only 6 mm (0.24 inches) in July.

Stay safe down there Seeker!

I am thinking hoping for the best, wishing that Dorian
fizzles out or turns back to sea.

Blowing her away from land in my thoughts...

Yes indeed, BTS, for I am in a far better location ti ride this storm out than several of our members; am hoping that spacemaverick is moving out of the line of fire down on the space coast, and I am quite sure that he, hoss58, little enki, are all on top of this situation

There are advantages to living in the foothills of the Appalachians, 1100 feet above sea level and a long way from the gulf and the Atlantic  :P

Happy and hopefully enjoyable Labor Day to all

Good Monday Labor Day morning to all  8)

Does anyone have details on the shootings down in Midland, Texas? I have been busy all weekend, and the details I received were sketchy at best, possibly multiple shooters, 5 dead, 22 injured?

Dorian still seems to be the main focus in the Southeast USA, 120 mph Cat 3, and is it ever going to move or is it just going to continue to sit over the Bahamas?

Meanwhile, here in Georgia, we are having night time temps in the low 70's-upper 60's but day time highs in the upper 90's
