It's quite sad for me to say that over 3 million businesses in the United States represented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, not to mention 800+ other major corporations (see below list), all have shown their support for the disturbing legislation known as CISPA, or the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act.

This long list includes corporations like Google, Facebook, AT&T, Verizon, Microsoft, IBM, Boeing, Intel, the Financial Services Roundtable, Lockheed Martin, Qualcomm, Northrop Grumman, VeriSign, Symantec, Oracle, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, the Internet Security Alliance, the information Technology Industry Council, the Independent Telephone & Telecommunications Alliance, the Cyber, Space & Intelligence Association, CTIA – the Wireless Association, the Business Roundtable and more (all of which are listed below).

Please take a moment out of your day to either share this article or at least the list of corporations behind this legislation in order to help coordinate a boycott effort.

See link for more (and the list!)

I think this beyond "Big Brother" implications. I work for a company that handles hundreds if not thousands of transactions dealing with all the individuals private information, from their names to their routing/account numbers every day. It is sad when we have too be afraid of such people that try and manipulate finances from innocent people, but having the government's doing this, which I would believe is a Privacy act issue as well, it would possibly open up a Pandora's box of issues, both by governmental standards and incrimination rights of the 5Th amendment.
At my place of work, we were experiencing severe problems with refunds from Income tax returns and direct deposit issues, some of these issues still exist, especially the Direct Deposit issue, employer and Social Security benefits being the on-Slaught of the complaint's by customers and, at the beginning, tax returns with Automatic deposit request customers, some of these people were receiving 2 & 3 times more than what they were entitled too. I have never been able too prove that there was something going on with our current state of affairs with governmental compensations for direct deposit issues, but this may have been the result of trying too put such action's and application's too work before actually running a test on themselves.
Thanks for sharing Amaterasu, didn't see this post until now, very informative and insightful..

Given that the IRS goes hog-wild going after People who are over-paid and who spend the funds...  I am not so sure this is accidental...  Call Me "paranoid," if You will, but the IRS tacks on ugly penalties and gets mean - another way to take more from Us, perhaps?

I have had some conversation's with some very upset and absolutely devastated individuals, wasn't because of the over payments per-say, it was more to do with what they intended on doing with their returns and then getting absolutely no sympathy from the debt's they're funds were intended for, for that I blame capitalistic charlatans for their behavior towards these unfortunate individuals of this calamity.
If the Government was aware of these glitches, and failed too acknowledge the potential of this issue happening, that is the Governments fault, but for American based industry and capitalism, the CEO's and Small business owner's should have gave leniency to the returnee's for the misappropriate act of instilling such a plan without consumer knowledge.
Example:
Had a young girl call in too me in tears, I went through my spiel and let her get her point out for her reason for calling. she openly admitted that she was aware of the over payment issue, but she didn't care, she had absolutely no access to her funds that was on the card already for her direct deposit during Tax return time. She was sobbing so hard, I could barely understand. in lieu of the conversation, and to my and her dismay, I was only allowed to be personally apathetic for her situation and basically told by my Superior's to tell her "Too Bad, So Sad" rhetorical response. I wasn't even allowed to explain what had happened with the IRS tax returns or give her a ETA of when the situation was going to be corrected.
I asked later that day to one of my higher up management team why I couldn't tell her anything at all, the only response I got was "It wasn't our fault and that's what we do,we work for people that are our client's, and they control that." I was really angered by the response, but in fear of loosing my position, I had too remain tight lipped and concerned for these people at the same time, bit my tongue on a few occasion's because of the nature of the callers and their unfortunate situations.
Sad but true, we are all just puppet's working for the man that works for another man that works for a higher up man that doesn't give a rats arse of your problems.
