For all you would be Anomaly Hunters...

Not everyone can see the objects quickly and clearly... some people literally see only blurry rocks. These people generally will not believe that you can. yet the Military pays people who do have the eyes big bucks :P

There are many reasons, monitors being one, a closed mind is another :P, eyeglass, poor vision,  but some people cannot separate shades of gray... then all they can see is blurry rocks,

Another point is SCALE. Until you wrap your mind around the SCALE you are looking at its hard to spot things

Some people. like my daughter, can bounce into the room and just look at a picture and point things out, some that I have to take a double look to see. This happened in Johns Moon thread... it took several days for me to get the scale in my head and then I started spotting things (after which Johna and I met :D )

Here is an example of what I am getting at. The bottom photo was used as a bombing mission. See the objects marked 'rocket' and 'trailer'?  There is your scale

Today Google Earth has much better resolution :P

54° 8' 34.8" N, 13° 47' 38.4" E

I can see why I wasn't selected for photo intel lol.  I can barely see the words rocket and trailer.   :o

I suppose they didn't had to work with such low quality photos, as that image shows what some people do to try to "enhance" the photos: they change the contrast to make some things look sharper. What they do not understand is that they are removing information from the photo, so it becomes harder to see what was really there.

Pimander

I agree that a lot of the time so called enhancements of images are not helpful.  They also frequently create the illusion something is there that isn't.

On the topic of scale, maybe we should invent a PRC system.  What about little pictures of things people instinctively know the size of in the corner of images we are analysing? Things like a planet Earth, a space shuttle, house, a car, a Boeing 737, a cat, a hammer (for close up pictures) in the corner of images would give us perspective on the objects in an image.....

We could have some standard little pictures to put in the corner.  Ones for space images and another set for pictures from orbiters or landers.

Just a thought.  Let me know what you think.

Well, I've spent quite a few hours going over Mr. Sturm's e-book and downloading the photos on the list. I called up the e-book and split screen my photos next to it. I tried to find the hi-lighted areas of interest Mr. Sturm points out. Although I was able to find all the 'items', the image quality was less than desired. I had to really 'adjust' the photo to get it to reveal objects of interest. Which leads me to believe I really don't know what the hell I'm doing. The software I have is no way comparable to the software he uses. The photos I have are of less quality than the ones he uses. All in all, it leaves me feeling very, very amateurish (which is what I am). ??? :o ::)

So I've decided to instead of trying to match he's work and confirm in my mind that what I'm seeing, everyone else can see, to just load the photo list and without his guide of what's there and what's not, search as I usually do and point out things that 'I' think I see, whether it matches his items or not....

I have to remember this is suppose to be fun.. ;D

Peace

Here is a list of better versions of almost all of those photos. :)

The one for which I couldn't fins a better version was photo AS10-28-4012.

Photo AS15-M-2502 is a special case, as the metric photos have already been digitized by the Apollo Image Archive project, so you can get a 1.2GB, 16 bits per pixel TIFF. :)

Some of the images are TIFFs, found on the Internet Archive site, and the quality is very good, even if the resolution is not much bigger than the ones you already posted. :)

I saw that "L" and was going to post it - and then remembered I don't have much in the way of image processing software...yet.

Good catch, stealth!
