Historically that black and white flooring.... marble normally was a symbol for the Masons and their efforts. It represented them so strongly that many of the mansions that were purchased during WWll in England to be used as training facilities for the covert activities of the SOE were chosen and used because of the particular flooring. It was almost an inside code.

And the bombers that dropped those agents into occupied France and into Germany before the end of the war had that same black and white pattern installed around what they called the " Joe Hole".... through which the jumpers slid out of the plane....so it is a sort of code that underpins everything.... and its not just a game of chess. Besides.... isn't that red and black?

Not necessarily:

The colors are called "black" and "white" (or "light" and "dark"), although the actual colors are usually dark green and buff for boards used in competition, and often natural shades of light and dark woods for home boards.

The allegorical teaching of the black and white checkerboard floor in masonic lodges hearkens back to the free will choice that we all make on whether we will serve the principle of selfishness or selflessness, separation or unity, darkness or light. The black and white mosaic flooring is a long standing mystical symbol, the square shape representing the physical world, as opposed to the circle representing spirit. As the laws of physics are laid over on the spiritual laws, they too require balanced electrical polarity to exist and for work to occur, so too the spiritual in the free will creation, for choice to exist, polar extremes must be real.
